Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

I still can't fucking believe that a Brony mod has hardly any Drama. I gotta give them credit, i shit on the whole MLP theme and stuff, but their mod is not only pretty fucking well made and the devs are pretty talented. plus they actually make content

I will always, ALWAYS, mock Bronies, but I have nothing but respect for the EaW devs. They make consistent updates, almost always release teasers on Tuesdays and also put out Dev Diary stuff like this that provides good overviews of what's going on. There are professional dev teams that can't do stuff like this. I will happily admit that I play the pony mod at this point, it's the best one that gets released.

OWB us probably the only mod I'm okay with having an emphasis on story and 'visual novel' elements because it's based in the world of Fallout. Literally all Fallout games (well, the good ones that is) have a good amount of sitting through dialogue scenes and exploring your local environment to soak in the world.

I like a bit of VN with my game these days, I'm sitting at 4000 hours in HOI4 so its nice to have something to go along with it. The problem with a lot of mods, especially TNO, is that they have made the VN the main point, rather than the warfare. It's nice to accomplish stuff to unlock more of the story, which is something that OWB and EaW are good at.

I have a theory why eaw is not as crazy as other hoi4 mods in math when you multiply a negative by a negative you get a positive. In real life when you multiply the autism of hoi4 modding with the degeneracy of the brony fandom you get something efficent and masterful its like hegelian dialectics the best parts of each thing are left behind while the worst parts are discarded.

With some of the old guard slowly leaving/more new people coming into the team it'll be interesting if they can kept up the same level of quality and pace, I've said a lot of negative things in the place here about the Zebrica content so far since even when Griffonia was in it's early stages it was a more enjoyable experience since it was the ideal Hoi4 formula for the major nations.

I had an idea for that myself but with 4chan as a HRE-style patchwork of different boards like /v/ or /lgbt/, and with the soyjak.party claiming /qa/.

Hmm.. Maybe we could go further with this and we could work together on the idea? The only issue i'd struggle with would be programming, but i know there's websites with which one can atleast make basic focus trees, events nations and so on, biggest issue would be adding a custom map.. But yeah i imagine we could have smaller sub nations under BIG nations (however that would probably make a lot of lag.) Nevertheless i think with adding nations and all that my immense super hyperborean autism could cook something up.

It unironically sounds like a really funny idea, though execution could be difficult.

Issue with some of those sites is they are from what i've heard quite unreliable, They are great though for sketching out focus trees etc.., I know the HOI4 modding site was apparently known to have issues in which you'd have to tweak focus trees and stuff like that if you'd want them to work in game, i am unsure if there's a better alternative to that or not though.

For such a huge modding community, I'm surprised there is no HOI4 modding kit or application to make modding easier, ideally ones that are offline and not a website. People have to stick to editing on txt files for all sorts of things ranging from leader portrait placement assigned to a specific country or long stories with one button decisions or debugging focus requirements. Modding HOI4 could be factorized into a short amount of steps so that dead mods like TWR or In the Name of the Tsar can be easily revived with a few clicks.

I considered making one but I don't get paid for it so fuck that.

Would be interesting to see how Something Awful might fit into that, given that it was the progenitor of a lot of these places. Josh's stream on Lowtax has a really good summary of the major sites that sprang up as a result of SA if anyone here needs a refresher. In a sense that might make them a bit of a Byzantium if you want to draw references to other Paradox gameplay experiences. The proverbial Rome that led to the foundation of many of the most important playable states on the map (fits in really well with your idea of a 4chan HRE), but at the start of the game would look like a husk of its former self after everything they've been through. Could make for a really fun and challenging campaign in that setting.

Hoi4 modding is something I tried to get into but I never really enjoyed it, but I'd help be an "ideas guy" if thats anything

*2011, which is funnily enough is the same year the Arab Spring happened and it's why I made a Yemen comparison. At least Libya and Syria are much quieter now but Yemen is still under a seemingly unending civil war ever since the Arab Spring happened.

And yeah more or less after 2011 when the OhInternet rebranding attempt happened and GirlVinyl left the scene, ED has been in a constant cycle of collapsing under its own leadership and then someone else takes up the reigns, etc. it repeats again. Just happened like last week if you check the Community Happenings thread.

The only stable element of the ED community is the forums (aka EDF) so there can be an analogy to how an island chain off the coast of ED proper (aka the EDF Islands) are doing relatively okay but keep to themselves, somewhat like the island of Socotra. Though obviously this leaves them open to foreign butt-fucking much like how the UAE plans to buy the island of Socotra IRL.
