Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Speaking of pointless. These focus artsy icons are a real waste of time considering no player is going to stare at them for more than as a second. And that's not just because of how cluttered they are, making them hard to look at, but because they're buttons.
Well, you also see them in the country overview screen, when you're for example checking your own country or some other country, to see what focus they are working on, in which case they are not just buttons. Matter of fact a distinct focus icon can tell you instantly what focus the nation is going for, but of course this would require the player to know all the focuses by heart, or to have the focus icon relay information about the focus itself effectively.

Or for the player to have intel in the first place. “Focus watching” is only relevant for certain countries, less so in most mods (which the person you were replying to was referring to) and, in the end, not much more useful than opening the enemy’s focus tree and actually reading which scripted actions will trigger when.

Hmmm, what does kiwifarms want in a Hoi4 mod?
If you could make a hoi4 mod what would it be like and what would it be about?
More fictional worlds please. It allows for Epic Gamer Moments™️ like genocide, purges, wars and wacky characters/ideologies without turbo autists shitting up the community or the development team because they dug up an obscure russian article to prove that "X person/country wasn't actually like that, so we have to rework the whole thing". That's the main appeal of EaW and Anbennar (it's for EU4, but still the best fictional mod IMO)

It feels like TNO is rapidly going the way of KR, and by that I mean they're removing all the fun and unique stuff. I recall how back in the day there was an uproar about KR cutting Sternberg/Genghis Khan II, and now TNO has removed Atlantropa, Göring Voring and so on. Who knows what's next in the epic quest for realism and unpersoning PinkPanzer? It's far easier to remove content than making new one, apparently.

They will make the KR removal issues look like tiny fixes. KR Syndieboos are bad enough but the TNO self-destruction is far worse.

It takes a special type of retard to have a Axis victory mod and demand the Nazis cannot be "seen as competent" and then go around trying to undo the nightmare. I heard a joke once that TNO is the result of a HoI4 game where the Germans were using cheatengine but once the universe updated to 1950's patch it stopped working and the bad player was forced to try and play legit and failed. This seems to be unironically the sort of thing TNO is going for now. The Axis wins WW2 but for some reason they immediatly collapse into themselves and the Allies return to being competent.

To be fair Altantropa has always been the target of whinging of a large part of the community about how it's unrealistic and stupid.
Not that damming the Congo for irrigation of the Sahara and to build a shipping canal through the entirity of Africa is unrealistic and stupid, or the majority of Russia's warlords and the whole Burgundian thing.

I was sad to see Atlantropa gone though after booting the mod up after 2 years. I always liked the fact that they actually did something with the world map and not just repainted the continents with some Wehraboo's fanfic.

Real or gayops? You decide!

Perhaps Panzer thinks he get a job at pdx by emulating Troonifica's example?

I bet Gnosticism would become popular in the TNO universe considering how their world clearly doesn't make any sense.

It was only a matter of time.

I admit that I mocked the whole Atlantropa (and the Russian collapse and Burgundy) thing but I have to say it gave TNO its identity. They don't really know what they want to create anymore, and clusterfuck ensues.

Panzer already went from Unironic Neo-Nazi to Vaushite Communist. Trooning out, especially if he doesn't chop his cock off and just LARPs wearing gaudy makeup and women's clothing, sounds perfectly plausible.

They are absolutely trying to create a whole need mod but do not want to give up on the TNO brand. I said this before: It's the sort of progressive skinsuit you see woke types push where they take a existing IP and absolutely destroy it.

More like PinkHalftrack, soon to have his main armament deactivated.

You will never be a real troop transporter. You have no troop carrying capacity, you have no seats, you have no doors. You are an armored vehicle twisted by weather attrition and patchwork repairs into a crude mockery of the military's perfection.
All the “commendation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back the enemy mocks you. Your manufacturers are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “crew” laugh at your ghoulish appearance behind closed hatches.
Troops are utterly repulsed by you. Decades of R&D have allowed soldiers to sniff out deathtraps with incredible efficiency. Even halftracks who “work” look uncanny and unnatural to a soldier. Your tracks are a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a squad to their destination, they'll turn tail and bolt the second they get a whiff of your broken, leaking gas tank.
You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake vroom every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like rust, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll break down in the middle of a road, set yourself on fire, force your crew to abandon you, and become a battlefield wreck. Your manufacturers will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll scrap you with equipment designed for your birth designation, and every mechanic for the rest of eternity will know a tank was scrapped there. Your metal parts will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a development footnote that is unmistakably referring to a tank.
This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

I fell into the rabbit hole of Kaiserreich's history after giving the mod a go recently and stumbled upon an interview they did with the mod's original creator. I really dig the way he described the development philosophy that the project had in it's early stages, "this sounds cool, let's add it in". I'd really like to see more mods made with that mindset, or atleast have the ones that already exist refrain from axxing shit for being unrealistic.

Do you have a link to this interview?

You'd think they would want the nazis to be competent enemies in order to make overcoming them a worthy challenge.

I'll defend Atlantropa by saying It was a good visual metaphor for the current state of the world and I've yet to see a proper well research statement on how the dam couldn't work (an off hand quote from wikipedia does not count).

Here. His wording is a bit different after rewatching, but it boils down to the same principles. Another thing, the attempt at making the world's factions morally gray was justified in an interesting way.

Was going to say it but Emilio beat be to it.

In hindsight we should have all expected this. Panzer has officially confirmed he isn't the most mentally stable person involved in this mod. Anyone else remember all the creepy grooming shit that people were sending him way back when this thread was young?
