Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Kaiserredux feels more off the rails than Red Flood after replaying both. I sometimes wish it wasn't such a stitched mess of ideas, as even "normal" paths for countries feel like they're more insane than the ones that are crazy by default. Makes you appreciate the truly mad ones less in comparison.

The devs scrapping the Heydrich path really show's that they don't know how to make a game/mod fun. Who cares if Heydrich was a bad bad man? Crazier personal turnarounds have a happened before. But forget about that, the main problem is that they've removed something genuinely fun in this generally boring mod.

The stress of first winning a civil war from a disadvantageous position and then having to win another one by constantly managing individual states and getting the timing exactly right makes the ending, though bad, feel like an accomplishment. Why not just have another contender for the german power struggle who's SS-but-not-Himmler and have him build a long lasting SS-Germany, instead of removing one of the few actually challenging and fun paths in this mod?

Anyone who still had doubts about what I meant when I said that
building off the Burgundian System, HOI4 modders now turn to making a certain color on the ideology wheel particularly cursed to make paths interesting,

The original implementation of limited, eccentric ideologies was intriguing and worthwhile. Then came the obsession with replicating that, and from it, the tendency to multiply its content in gameplay. Sooner or later, poor ideas turned too popular will find their children rolling in absurdity.

Incredibly enough the mod that has ''hallucionogenism'' isnt dead

I am begging, pleading with these autists to stop wasting their time on this shit and just write Stephan King-esque short-story anthologies.
I WILL read your short story on whatever the fuck 'Dead Water' or 'Annihilationism' and all the other crackpot shit, but I am not indulging in map games.
What would you hypothetically guess dead water is about?

All true, though it's at the cost of the original concept itself. What even is the Burgundian System/Esoteric Nazism in TNO now? No more Bond villain Himmler (a great concept that needed gameplay work). Burgundy is now a shithole, and not an interesting one. No divided Paris until an invasion and then collapse before the decade is up. Absolutely nothing to do but another blue map minigame. Heydrich is next on the chopping block, replaced with an invariably far less interesting path identical to Bormann/Speer in practice (Goering's not far behind, there). Kaukasien is nothing, though I'm sure king Josias will be cut for excessive wackiness soon too.

As far as I'm aware, the only other leader in the mod with half a thing to do is Taboritsky, and though he seems less vulnerable to the axe as the others, it's pretty bleak that he's the only one. They'll spend the next decade making useless 'skeleton content' with spooky subideology icons and never, ever anything more interesting than the original 3 of Burgundy, Heydrich, and Tabby. Instead, we'll be asked to pretend that another year-delayed Bormann faction influence gui is actually interesting.

IRL from what little we know about Hitler and Himmler's plans, Burgundy was intended to be a place for the SS to create the ideal Pan European State. It would be somewhat interesting if instead of being an analogue to North Korea they made Burgundy this dream utopian project that Himmler has to create a new order where you're trying to mold Germans, Belgians, and French into this new identity and all the issues that Himmler's other ideas would cause.

The more I look back at it Burgundy could have had great potential. TNO devs only went surface level with Nazi Esoterism and made it all so dissapointing. They could have easily made that country both comically absurd with experiments while also absolutely fucking horrifying as a giant concentration camp, and they bungled it on both levels because of muh feels. Apparently people cried at the opening events about a woman having her kid post-natally aborted because he was too French looking

Muh shock value

It's a real shame, because in concept and aesthetics TNO really hits the sweet spot for me, between more 'grounded' things like TWR and full Naziwank like nu-Wolfenstein and High Castle. None of those are necessarily bad, but the premise of a 3-way Cold War runs circles around them. And I'm unabashedly autistic for the purple Burgundy icons, the blue UI (though it looks ass), the somber map colors. It's just a shame there's a lot of fluff in that beautifully-constructed box, and little of actual value. Once they strip out the last of Panzer's writing, I'll just get back into Vic2 or something.

A three way cold war between the Third Reich, Imperial Japan and the United States (who is defending the last remaining liberal democracies on Earth) is an exciting idea. And TNO is an incredible feat of HOI4 mod design. Although content additions are few and far between, they have accomplished something great with TNO. A mod that truly pushes the limits of Hoi4 as a game. However the dev and writing team being so vehemently anti-fun and unwilling to cease the constant circlejerking of their favorite ideologies just poisons the well. They have cool ideas but fumble the bag EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Also surprised we don't have many posts regarding Panzer's trans arc. I thought it would liven the thread up a bit.
