After someone made a joke about a silly path where Nelson Mandela becomes God-Emperor of South Africa, said writer exploded into a rant about how Mandela was a terrorist who destroyed Africa, revealing himself to be an Afrikaner nationalist and that, in the words of the original lead, "the dude was racist as all shit and his passion about South Africa had been the worst kind." After he was removed, no one was quite sure what to do with South Africa until the lead developer hit on the idea of having the Reichkommissariate invade during the German civil war, sparking the South African War that would turn into a huge disaster for everyone involved.

Content wise, TNO has is far from biased towards the European continent. Just Asia, with all the Russian warlords plus Japan and China, is more than a match for Europe. Many of the actual in-game wars don't take place in Europe as well. SA, Algerian, Indonesian, Arab, and Iranian civil wars all happen off continent, not to mention the Siberian unification wars.

I think the biggest irony in TNO's push for 'Amerika bad aktually' is that, by TNO's own internal worldbuilding, the US being more left-wing than IRL makes a sort of sense sense. TNO's Cold War is between two fascist empires and the liberal USA. Communism relegated to a failed experiment of the 20s and 30s. Given that socialists and communists were blowing the warning siren on the rise of fascism in the pre-war era, they might end up seen as a bunch of Red Cassandras. The war would have generated a lot of socialist refugees. America would have been the number-one destination for many. And the Soviet Union's crushing defeat takes them from 'Red Boogieman' to 'sympathetic defeated nation'. Domestic socialists becoming much more powerful in TNO USA than in real life has some logic in it. In a twist of historical irony, these domestic leftists would probably be some of the biggest war hawks in America.
One of TNO's major problems, especially with the Africa content, is that they often just follow IRL history. Example, the domestic opposition to the African war just being the anti-Vietnam protests. Which don't make a lick o' sense. Youth activists. High off a campaign to pass civil rights legislation. Against the US supporting a nation fighting literal fucking Nazis. The more interesting scenario, in my opinion, would be to have the youth activists be super pro-war. They link the struggle against fascism abroad to the US's struggle for equality at home. The youth don't have first-hand experience of war,. They view American intervention against Germany and Japan as a moral crusade and would love to strike against the Brown Menace. The older generations saw the horrors of war, and favor realpolitik and diplomacy. Managing this generational struggle becomes a core component of TNO USA's gameplay. Higher youth radicalization means more support for fighting Adolf and Hirohito. But it also means more drive to involve yourself in (potentially catastrophic) foreign wars and pass radical policy changes. Lower youth radicalization means less support for proxy wars. But it makes managing diplomatic relations and domestic policy easier. Driving to either extreme is what gets you Yock and Hall Torture. If you completely normalize relations with Japan or Germany, the détente allows fascist ideas to gain further traction in the US. This enables Yockey's rise to power. If you go full Youth Radicalization, Hall ends up getting in on an extremely hawkish platform. A fanatical idealist, Hall treats the Cold War like a grand revolutionary crusade (and usually causes WW3 and nuclear holocaust).

yeah, but the TrooNO devs want you to be able to play as multiple nations, super powers included and im not sure if suzerain would allow for the same GUI-modding potential.

• He was replaced with Philip Hart by the Unfinished Business expansion from Toolbox Theory, both because plans are being made to expand Space Race mechanics and make them more independent of individual presidents, and because some of the creative team considered his content mediocre in quality and unfitting to his real-life self. (One described him as a "lackluster IRL Atari Dem who was a corrupt party stooge and deficit hawk who opposed social spending, and someone who couldn't give a speech to save his own life.")

And, before they nerfed helicopters, you could easily win the war without drafting, yet the rail roading make so the protests continue even as you get a kill ratio of a thousand to one vs nazis.
More on tv tropes, because that site got some few useful things in the end.

• In the content of the African Reichskomissariats, especially Ostafrika it`s referenced that the Nazis see black people as even worse than Jews in their racial hierarchy and seek to wipe them out completely in the long run (especially Hüttig). While historically the Nazis did of course considered black people inferior they had them several steps above the Jews and where generally seeking to subjugate but not outright wipe them out. The notion of black people being the "worst" ethnicity was more prominent in WASP groups in Great Britian and the USA than the original Nazis (that said modern day Neo Nazis have since then fully embraced it as well).
• The entire premise of The Modern Bogatyr (a German man being executed for being married to a Jewish woman, and their half Jewish child being then forced to fight in the Wehrmacht) is flat out false. A marriage between an Aryan man and a Jewish woman was generally (unless the man had converted to Judaism) considered a "Priviligierte Mischehe" (privileged interracial marriage) with the children being considered Aryan and the women, usually, spared from deportations. Though the historical Nazis did often put pressure on such husbands to divorce their Jewish wife’s they wouldn't have them executed for their marriage alone. Though to be fair it is possible the Nazis did eventually change these laws in the Alternate History of TNO. However then it makes no sense the Nazis would conscript the half Jewish son for the Wehrmacht (when even OTL there were some german officials who wanted to expell Half Jews from the army alltogether).
• One event in regard to the slave revolt in the Speer Path shows that there are still Jews living in ghettos in Poland in the late sixties. Given how the Nazis OTL pretty much dissolved all of the ghettos during the war and send the surviving people in them to the concentration/death camps, it seems very implausible that some Jews were allowed to continue living in the ghettos for decades without being deported, especially as TNO suggests the Holocaust was pretty much 'completed' in the territories under German rule.

what's progress like on the mod so far? @GoodWinSon i should also mention you probably wont be able to integrate pol pot into the mod, since he's tailored around the new cambodian content. however cambodia could go communist if vietnam (and i think laos too) went communist as well, but im not sure if that's present in the version you're working on.

Part of me is glad TNO devs old and new have said they wont add him in, mostly cause I know they are not smart enough to write about him at alll. Though who did they replace him with as gonna be real, I never check on or even care about South America even in this mod.
