I get that rewoorking is a curse for TNO, but seeing people act like old Africa was worthwhile at all is incredibly funny. Collab England colonies in Africa are infinitely more interesting than "durr Hüttig kills everyone" and "durr de Gaulle is the bad guy, socialism wholesome 100." I recommend reading the dev diary, the first page already solos everything that was in Africa before. What's the point of Kongo Müller when he just gets killed anyway? Zentralafrika and Südwestafrika were cool concepts that were basically country-sized trap paths destined to always be eaten by Ostafrika or to be OFN mandates. I can't name a single cool concept in old Africa that actually got to live out its full arc aside from the OFN mandates.

Another copium hopium post from me. I hope that the new Yippie update when it comes at the heat death restores the old classical TNO shitposting and culture. What I mean by that is I know DAMN well that people are going to play as Goldwater and Wallace and not any of the other boring candidates. Why do normie shit when you can launch nukes at Haiti? What's interesting is in the original dev team. They had a South African dev. What happened though is this guy was a little Chuddy. He had less than stellar views on the ANC and Mandela that the other team did not like so they kicked him. This is when South Africa got re-worked into the Korean war analogue we have today. Its also why a few things appear on the map. Ian Smith was put in south Africa and gets shot cause they did not want Nazis and racists to glorify or play as him. Its also why on release Greater-greater Romania was a thing. He compared Hungarian Transylvania to Rhodesia. honestly I just think some salty gypsy told him this and he just accepted it.

I think I saw it mentioned before, but doesn't the Africa rework make the existence of Iberia nonsensical? Like, I thought the explanation for why Portugal and Spain united was that Germany forcibly annexed Portugal's Colonies of Angola and Mozambique which caused them to become closer allies and foster a sort of Pan Iberianism that hadn't existed before that time.

Without the actions of Germany to galvanize them, I can never see the largely republican Salazar and the monarchist Franco ever agreeing to form anything deeper than an alliance together as their leader's ideologies are just too different from one another to justify Portugal and Spain coming together to form Iberia.

(With that being said, I can still see why Portugal and Spain would never officially become allies with Germany, Hitler and Franco greatly disliked one another and I can see the Catholic Salazar and Franco prefer to join in alliance with the Catholic Italy than the more Protestant Germany)

I would slightly I agree. I think an underexplored alt-hist concept of germany winning and having some control over africa, is what if the madagascar plan was implemented but on an even larger scale? What if germany in order to settle the east more efficiently starts also deporting russians and ukrainians to the congo or whatever? How would the existance of such minority groups then influence US foreign policy of supporting the anti-colonial movements? Would the diaspora in the US be fine with their people getting expelled again by the natives the US supported?
