TOJI SUZUHARA'S TNO BRAZIL AAR

A MORTE DE UM TIRANO: LOTT TO LACERDA PATH
So almost a year after my two Mexico AARs the TNO dev team has had the decency to add actual new content to the mod with The Crow and the Bull, the Brazil update for those who don't know. I apologize for the delay as there were several technical and personal complications that prevented me from even playing TNO until rather recently, but you aren't here for that and neither am I, so I'll cut to the chase after a brief series of considerations:
  1. This is the flowchart, stolen from r*ddit.
(To any and all jannies reading this, do NOT thumbnail the flowchart. Thumbnailing it renders the already very small text in it unreadable, defeating its purpose.)
    Brazil flowchart.webp

Read this in detail if you wanna get any particular path or leader, and remember to save often once any of the important events here pop up)
  2. ONLY Adhemar and Lacerda have post-1965 content:
Don't be like me and PSDmaxx by gaming the economy minigame and winning all the proxies. You are only making your Lacerda/Adhemar presidency more difficult (or fucking your whole run up if you pick either Goulart or Kubitschek and forget to save once you get the pop-up, something that I almost did).
    1754191042517.webp

(this is a literal death sentence for Lacerda unless you do something that I'll get into later)
The meta is actively sabotaging yourself via failing to meet the economy goals set up by the game, campaigning for rival parties on the '62 and '65 elections, and picking any options that'll lower the PSD's/PTB's popularity in all events that you come across.
  3. You can NOT win the South American Cold War:
There's a tooltip that says that you will win the war if you get double the points as your rival (i.e. Argentina) and keep that advantage for 100 days.
    1754191084208.webp
This is a lie caused by the TNO dev team's abject retardation.
    1754191115397.webp
Nothing will happen if you achieve that goal. No event of any kind will fire, you won't unlock more content like decisions, and there aren't even unused events in the files related to this. These faggots had literal years to remove one fucking paragraph that massively affects how a player behaves and they couldn't even be bothered to do that. But why can't you win if you absolutely demolish the argies? Because, as you can read in the above ss, they just don't want you to win that early, stop being good at the mod they themselves "made", chud!
  4. Inflation is literally the Antichrist:
Always pick any and all economic decisions and events that'll cause your inflation to lower. It cripples your construction speed and factory output even if your actual economic growth outpaces it, and having it above 25% causes your credit rating growth to basically stagnate right where it is no matter what, making the run that little harder.
    Inflation.webpCredit.webp

(these ss are from the very end of the game, but serve as a good example because inflation will be that high throughout most of your run if you do not game it)
2-4+2+1=1. A massive credit rating progress of +1 per month, literally nothing.
  5. Use your civs to spam power plants and only power plants:
A booming economy means that the amount of production units you have will basically double every 3 years if you are playing well, that'd be good if your power grid roughly at game start didn't look like this:
    1754191442024.webp
You'll bottleneck yourself if you max out your consumer goods production to have a higher gdp growth, so spam them like there's no tomorrow and assign around a third of your total pus to civs so you can build them since day one.
With all of this in mind your Brazil experience should be far smoother than mine, so take note of my recommendations to ease the pain of playing nu-TNO (or just say "fuck this shit" and play TFR instead).
Welcome to Brazil, fellow TrooNO "fans"! Don't let Kween Keffals' brazilian bathtub HRT fool you, the country hasn't always been that lame (even if the TNO devs say otherwise).
We'll cover some of the background about the corrupt banana republic presidents and political parties who can lead the country first as well as a short history lesson and then we'll talk about the economy. There are 3-4 main parties: The PSD, the PTB, the UDN, and the PSP.
The PSD is our ruling party at game start; the party is corporatist, populist, and conservative, and was founded by Getúlio Vargas in 1945, just like in OTL. Vargas supported the Allies in the TNOTL by declaring war on the Axis, losing WW2 alongside with the rest of them. He would also get couped by the military in this timeline, but on 1950 instead of 1945. He was forced to dismantle the Estado Novo, call for free elections, and ended up exiled in the countryside, never having commited suicide in 1954 unlike in OTL and playing an active role in politics through the PSD.

The 1950 elections were won by the second-most important party, the UDN, a pro-american, pro-OFN, liberal party deadset on eliminating all of Vargas' remaining influence over the Brazilian state, economy, and society, with Eduardo Gomes as the new president. Calling it a disaster would be putting it mildly, as Gomes almost destroyed the party in 1953 due to a botched labor reform, also losing the UDN the 1955 presidential elections. These would be won by the PSD, bringing it back to power and now with Juscelino Kubitschek at the helm, basically acting as Vargas Light, getting into conflicts and skirmishes aganist the African RKs over fishing rights, antagonizing Germany as a result. Having had a decent run at it, he managed to secure the 1960 elections for the UDN and our current president: Enrique Teixeira Lott.
Politics.webp
Lott is an army ex-general who narrowly won the presidency, having had to compromise with the pro-UDN politician Jánio Quadros, making him his VP, as well as entering into a coalition with the PTB. In the meantime, a guy called Adhemar de Barros (aka The Bull), Governor of São Paulo and incredibly corrupt man, would found another political party, the PSP, and the UDN would start to regain strength thanks to Carlos Lacerda (aka The Crow). Every single one of these guys, as well as Kubitschek and Lott's original running mate, João Goulart, want to become president in 1965, so it's safe to say that Lott and the PSD don't have it easy.

On top of this, the Argentinians also want a piece of the pie, and are currently in a standoff with Brazil called the South American Cold War.
SACW.webp
The Argentinians are more or less aligned with the Pakt, and we are more or less aligned with the US. Their goal is to put as many South American countries as they can inside their sphere, and we want to do the same but for ours. Simple as that, and this'll be the of most of the proxy conflicts that we'll go throught. We are currently on the backfoot as Paraguay is in the argie sphere and is expanding into Bolivia. On our side we have Chile as a counterbalance.

An on top on top of this, the military is also quite disloyal, just looking for the opportunity to coup us and put one of their guys in charge. We'll have to juggle with that during Lott's presidency, raising their loyalty, lowering their nepotism, and putting #our guys (the Constitutionalists) in charge of it.
20250729152254_1.webp

It's not all bad, however: The economy is getting better, the capital was successfully moved to Brasilia, and we managed to survive a couple of crises.
20250729151956_1.webp
Oh, and speaking of the economy, it's basically Mexico's economy minigame but simplified. We still have the GDP targets to increase our popularity in the elections, our decisions that'll make that easier, and metrics that'll give us bonuses the higher they are. Just click a state, pick a decision, and make the economy grow faster. Thankfully, it's not as stupidly overengineered as it was in Mexico's case, which is good.
Economy 2.webp
However, we also have a thing called special projects. This is basically Bormann's Breitspurbahn but with a new coat of paint, the GFX is literally the same in this one example: The Rodovia Transamazônica, the Trans-Amazonian Highway, a massive network of roads whose goal is to traverse the Amazon and connect Brazil's interior with the rest of the country, making development of the area and trade with the other amazonian countries easier.
Brazil economy.webp
The way it makes progress is by assigning production units. More units=more progress, simple as that.

This is the rest of Lott's tree. We can either increase his influence or Quadros' by picking the Neves or Quadros plan respectively. We also want to make the German RKs stop raiding our coasts and implement land reform, and to do land reform we have to pass a bill through the senate.
1754198968596.webpBrazil Power Struggle.webp
The way the senate works is that it's just a pp sink. We click on a decision, gain a more or less senators depending on if they are part of our party or one sympathetic to ours, and if we pass the threshold the law passes.
1754199230276.webp1754199519027.webp
Senate elections will happen on '62, '65, and '68. We pick a party, play the minigame, click buttons to make our candidates win the seat of any given state. Rinse and repeat.
Elections Senate.webpElections GUI.webp

Now, onto more interesting things. The proxy conflicts: As was said before, us and Argentina are in a sort of Cold War, and the rest of the South American nations are our battlefield. The first one in the chopping block is Bolivia, who's in a death spiral after losing to Paraguay in the Chaco War a few years earlier. Basically us, Argentina, and Chile want to divide Bolivia into zones of influence as if this were Qing China.
20250729161651_1.webp
The minigame itself is basically another pp sink. We spend pp to gain favors, while keeping tension low so that the Bolivians don't get fed up with us and make us lose it all :lossmanjack:. There are 5 rounds and we need to win 3 or more to make Bolivia jump to our side, each round giving us a small and different bonus after the negotiations end. Round 3 is the only one that actually matters as it'll give us resource rights over all of Bolivia, mainly their large tungsten reserves of which we possess literally none at all.
20250729161708_1.webp1754200507158.webp
We won, but of course it's not that easy. The Chileans betray us, and it isn't as if the average Bolivian is all that eager to become Brazil's bitch, so we back General Ovando after he coups the goverment and a small-scale civil war called Las Guerras Mineras starts.
Mineras.webpRed line.webp20250729170920_1.webp20250729171025_1.webp
There are 5 important social groups, and we need the goverment to be backed by at least 3 of them to win. To do that we click on decisions that spend pp and make the goverment more influential in the selected faction, at the same time antagonizing another one. The key to winning is simply completely abandoning the other two groups who we don't want to convince, as maxing out their anger has no consequences while we still benefit from influence gain of the decision we picked.
Mineras Minigame.webp1754203073638.webp
Just like that, Ovando crushes the rebels.
1754201889010.webp

Now onto the third proxy, the SAW. For this one we get a short tree that we have to complete before being able to send volunteers, but we still have a couple of decisions that allow us to help SA in an indirect way, like selling them weapons and sabotaging the Schild's production capabilities. I recommend expanding your helicopter divisions and sending them as volunteers to make the war easier.
SAW 1.webpSAW 2.webpSAW Tree.webp

However, something even more important than SA is happening, and that's the fact that President Lott has decided to establish Brazil's nuclear program.
20250730161342_1.webp
It's just a money sink. More money=more progress, literally not even a minigame.
1754203965512.webp

In the meantime, Quadros will try to coup us if our relationship with him isn't high enough, in the case that Lott has enough influence he stays and gets a new tree, if Quadros wins he becomes the president and opens up the flowchart.
Quadros coup.webpLott Victory.webp
Lott's new tree is basically about eliminating the military's influence over politics once and for all, and he'll do this by introducing the Lott Act.
Lott Tree 2.webp

While this happens the Paraguay proxy (aka the Paraguayan Bush War) will also occur. Basically after the GCW the Paraguayan goverment is experiencing an economic collapse, which allows insurgent groups backed by the Brazilian goverment as well as communist militias led by Che Guevara to enter the country in an attempt to overthrow the goverment.
1754204291944.webpBush war.webpBush war 2.webp
The minigame itself is just the Haiti proxy. You are in a race aganist the clock, as the Paraguayans are preparing a masive offensive to defeat FULNA, and you have to take decisions to increase FULNA's control of either 4 states or the capital Asunción before they are able to. It's also important to be wary of FULNA alignment, to win it'll have to be in Liberal, but almost all decisions increase their alignment towards the nationalist side, which is bad for us. They'll naturally drift towards liberal, so to win we must not go overboard with the decisions and time them correctly.
Bush war start.webp1754204850390.webp
If we did everything well, FULNA will coup the fascists, begin a power struggle, and install a new democratic goverment after the dust settles.
1754204334383.webp1754204561468.webp1754205997784.webp
The fall of Paraguay's fascist regime also causes Santa Cruz's to collapse, as they were their only backer. The regime that replaces them is best described as the South American Democratic Kampuchea, with mass killings and executions worthy of the Great Purge.
Santa Cruz .webpMIN revolution.webp
As a reaction to this Bolivia will mobilize and quickly declare war on Santa Cruz, easily defeating and annexing them.
Bolivian invasion.webpInvasion 2.webpBolivia victory.webp

After winning the SAW, you'll get a massive boost to your popularity and a large stab and war support increase, as well as lots of pp and SA's support for your nuclear progam, which makes it progress faster.
1754207098191.webp1754207150260.webp

While all of this happens, Denys will try to coup Lott. Lott can either succeed and twarth the coup attempt.
Coup 1.webp
(this one single focus is probably what will make or break a Lott run, so never pick Kruel)
Coup 2.webpCoup 3.webpCoup 4.webp
Or Denys can gather enough support, convince Kruel to betray you, and become president until the next elections}
coup 5.webpcoup 6.webpcoup 7.webpcoup 8.webpDenys.webp
He has a small focus tree that lets you pick whether you want to go with Barros or with Lacerda.
1754209187343.webp

Now after surviving the coup, the Lott Act passes and he gets a hat.
Lott Act.webpLott Act 2.webpLott Act 3.webp

We'll pick Lacerda of the UDN for our '65 candidate, and after winning the election, Lott will retire and return to being a general.
Lacerda.webpLott end.webp

Lacerda wins and the UDN is now back in power. Lacerda is an extremely obsessive and radical man, who hates everything Varguist and wants to rebuild the Brazilian administration and economy from the ground up, eliminating Vargas' corporations and giving way to the free market, he's also a fanatical defender of the OFN, aligning with the Americans almost always.
Lacerda 1.webpLacerda elected.webp
This is his focus tree. It has its social branch on the right, military on the center, and economic on the left, as well as foreign police on the top right. Keep in mind that you don't have enough time to finish it all, so pick wisely.
Lacerda tree 1.webpLacerda tree 4.webpLacerda tree 3.webpLacerda tree 2.webp
His party also has a loyalty mechanic, which is a pp sink with political compass characteristics.
Lacerda 2.webpLacerda party factions.webp
The most important part of the loyalty mechanic is that you get some very strong national spirits if you max you position in the axis. If you go full cooperative you get one that makes PSD senators like you more, and it's your only hope in cases like mine.

Sadly for Lacerda, Rio suffers severe flooding literally a day after he assumes power.
Lacerda Guanabanara.webp
To rebuild it he'll start another massive project, there are also projects for a nuclear power plant and another for a bridge connecting Rio with Niteroi, another large neighboring city.
Guanabara project.webpAngara Project.webpBrigde project.webp
Here are the completion events for all of them.
Rodovia.webpGuanabara rebuilt.webpRebuilt 2.webpAngra online.webpBridge complete.webp

There's also a proxy in Colombia. It's boring because you simply send a volunteer or two and capitulate the other countries, so I'll just post the victory screen. Lacerda supports the commie Colombians.
Colombia Victory.webp
As you can see on the previous screenshot, we can support the Free French on the West African War as well, but the proxy is just your average proxy with nothing unique to it, so I'll post the victory event again.
Free French victory.webp
They'll also help us with our nukes, giving us a total of two backers.
Free French nukes.webpBackers nukes.webp
This should alllow you to get nukes not that long after.
Brazil nukes.webpnuke exploding.webpnukes 3.webp
Pretty.

Following Lacerda assuming power, a referendum on the status of Brazil's Guyana-Cayenne military administration (basically French Guyana, but now under Brazilian rule after the fall of France) will be held. We want to annex it, and to do that we need to keep public anger low and legitimacy high, and of course have more votes in favor of annexation than for independence. All of that is basically just other terms for the word pp sink.
Referendum 1.webpReferendum 2.webpReferendum 3.webp
Just like that, we win and eventually annex it.
Guyana referendum.webpGuyana annexation.webp
Right before the '68 elections, Vargas Sr. will die, with his son making a short speech.
Vargas death.webpVargas death 2.webpVargas jr..webp
Adhemar will also die during Lacerda's presidency.
Adhemar death.webp

After the '68 elections, Lacerda gets a new tree that replaces the old one, meant to deal with the Varguist labor laws.
Lacerda 1968.webpLacerda labor laws.webp
He has this mingame, which is just the Guandong Riots but lame.
Strike start.webpStrike GUI.webp
The way you win is by pixcking all decisions that lower the CGT's strength no matter what, you should be done in a couple months.
strikes end.webp
In case he wins, he'll get this tree, it is focused on cementing his rule and reforms, bullying Argentina, and helping his successor, Raphael Magalhães, win the elections.

In case he does not, Távora will oust him and his vice president, he has this focus tree.

Raphael 2.webpRaphael 3.webpLacerda end.webp

In conclusion, it's better than Mexico, because nothing can be worse than Mexico, but it's at the same time bloated and empty. Lots of events and proxies and minigames with nothing to say, or show, or to be experienced while playing them. Nothing is original here, all of it are minigames that already existed but with a new coat of paint at best, and seeing that they delayed this update for years, the TrooNO dev team should be ashamed of themselves.

No John Glenn in TNO: Requiem because the Dutch faggot that's one of the project leads thinks Glenn being in ONE ENTRY on the Epstein flight logs makes him a pedo nonce rapist kiddy diddler.

God why the fuck did we allow the Netherlands to exist.

My best guess is they're using this as an excuse because they're too lazy to actually code it in lol

I don't have high hopes at all for yet another TNO Redux attempt. Even if it has had the best possible loadout like here. I fear incidents like this about what old content to bring back are going to tear the team apart.

I think at this rate Mango unironically believes that because Imperial Japan apparently had (on the books) "decriminalized gay sex" or whatever cope they have to get even one 'own' over AmeriKKKa because DRUMPF therefore; Imperial Japan is morally better than USA, lmao.
Even during the Panzer era and even outside of TNO I hate how there is even a weird re-habilitation of Japan's image. For example in the game itself America can detente with Japan and while it has its issues and people can bitch it can be possible to do so and even get people to agree. You cannot do that with Nazi Germany. While strange I think it shows greater extent of the Japan simperly. Now mind you they still show Japan as bad though reading the events and what they are going for they are trying to make Japan out to be just as bad/good as the British Empire or even Cold War America.

No. That's an insult to the people of Asia who had to go through them. We know that the human body is like 70% water BECAUSE of the Unit 731 or whatever it was called. No one had an industrial scale of prostitution like Korea and Manchuria did. They were so barbaric in Nanjing that everyone even the fucking Nazi delegation thought they were being so harsh. TNO tries to treat Japan as this quirky Empire trying to merely mimic the British and are just as bad/good. No. I can't believe I am going to defend the Anglos but the Anglos gave the nig nog nations common law they still use today just because its so effective. The Britbongs for their faults tried to get poojeets to stop setting their still alive wives on fire if they turned widows. The British did not go out of their way to rape and pillage like the Japs did.

Its a common thing for some reason in recent western history to fetishize fascist Japan for some reason. Even amongst progressives and leftists despite how Japan would hate them, these progressive try to lament that America bombed them more cause America is racist against a strong independent ricecell. I still think that Japan in TNO would be better suited to me a mirror of sorts to Nazi Germany. Nazi Germany is white people fascism. Japan should be about showing the literally maybe not-so-gay race communism. In that stuff like the Black Panthers, those Indio and Indigenous movements should take inspiration and get funding from Japan instead of Marxist movements. They play around that a bit in Africa with how Japan can support some of the commie niggers out of a sense of "Pan-Asian and Pan-Africanism in one struggle against whitey!"

If we assume that Imperial Japan in Vanilla TrooNO are a 1:1 parallel of the British Empire, would this mean that much like 'jeets in the modern day UK the Chinese would eventually overtake Grorious Nippon? Would there be Manchurian Grooming Gangs (Manchuria would be the Pakistan to Jap-cucked ROC being India. Hell, the Jap-cucked KMT even makes for a good parallel to the INC and there can be a Chinese Modi) overtaking Tokyo? Would there be an ethnic Chinese PM in the Japanese Diet like Rushi Sunak? "Contemporary Japanese Cuisine" being reduced to shitty xiao long bao and cumin lamb skewer takeaway joints that the Japs eat up cuz its cheap and "they seazon dey food"? I wonder what would a Jap Norf FC be like, maybe Koreans are their Ngubus.

"CUSTOMER-SAN!!! DO NOT REDEEM THE 20,000 YEN GIFT CARD! NOOO!!! YOU BLOODY 笨蛋! GRORIOUS MIDDLE KINGDOM SHALL RISE AGAIN YOU JAPANISHERS!"

maybe, this is true poetic justice for Nanking after all...

It was a level of suffering which I hadn't experienced ever since I played Mexico, and I'm quite good at the minigames. Everything is just such a slog that drags out for years and years despite on paper having decent pacing and reining in on So Far From God's worst excesses. The proxy wars are the worst part by far because of the missed potential, as they are just previous proxies but South America-themed, and just on a mechanical level a competent dev team should be able to implement them in a few weeks, not the 3-4 years that it took TrooNO's team to release this shit.

I also find the fact that this is probably the best that Brazil will ever be quite hilarious. A lot of your gameplay and lore is derived from the presence of the African RKs and the Free French remnants in West Africa. Both of those things are gonna get cut in the future, so any prospective Brazil players will have even less content as the mod "progresses". What a joke

That's not what happened in my game. No matter what I did the alignment was stuck at 55. I tried to also get nationalists and couldn't get it below 45 either
Hmm, I think you should verify the integrity of the game files. It looks like something's missing there

Sucking up to Japan despite the Japanese committing even more severe war crimes than the Nazis is mind boggling.

Ironically there's a huge Chinese TNO fanbase. I wonder how they'll explain whitewashing japan to them. East Asia nationalism is as autistic as Balkans nationalism after all.

Unfortunately the 2022 Europa's Narben branch is wiped clean of everything, but there's still the 2021 skeletons and content.

The thing is, the leaked branch doesn't seem to have ever had any of the content at all. No Poland, Moscowien, or Ukraine. The actual work could have been on branches that didn't leak.

To spare everyone having to listen to a soyboy video essay (he sounds like he's on the verge of crying, why do people talk like this in video essays?), he's basically saying what we already know; modern TNO has stripped out or changed so much that it can hardly be called the same mod.
he definitely had some intresting and good points but he has one of those superior lefty tones about him.
all i have to say about tno is the tno in your head is better than tno
Even Panzer fell into the trap of having too many half ideas and not enough direction. Ideas don't mean much if you don't have the will to make them real. There's so much cut content that could be cool, but whoever made them didn't have the drive to finish it. Farouk's tourism focus tree is so simple yet hilarious, but they only ever made localization for three events. Heck, the rest of the cut Egypt content is pretty enticing as well, but nobody ever finished it.

How Vargas only got couped in 1950? Irl he got kicked out by the army after WW2 ended, now the war ends on a total failure and he isnt taken out imediately?
