They never intended to make the game playable offline, Ross Scott forced their hand. Shame that he wasn't able to do anything about Crew 1, I wanted to play that game at some point.
It's really fucked up for The Crew 1 because it used to have an offline mode but they removed it later.

I still have DiRT 3 on steam and love it, but these days have a hankering for engineering games. There's something deeply satisfying about building a car in stormwanks or garrymode and after all your legit tuning and design it finally just works.
I do wish there were some engineering games about building cars from basic blocks. Not like My Summer Car or Automation, just something that really is gmod but car-centric and models stuff like aerodynamics and friction/traction a little bit better. Or even just Geometa fixing some of the more bonkers design decisions towards land vehicles in their game.

Speaking of DiRT, I found out that the Chinese version of DiRT 4 has BYD cars available, the Tang and Qin:

Is there a way to mod the game to unlock these cars in non-Chinese versions of the game, or are those cars not even in the game's code outside of China?

Why would the Chinese want their cars in video games?

For advertising reasons probably. Forza Horizon 5 launched in China and was a success there, and the game also has several Chinese cars either as Season Rewards or DLC Car Packs. It would also give people a teaser for those cars in regions that are unlikely to get Chinese cars due to tariffs. (i.e. US and Canada)

A 2024 Need for Speed mobile game was made by a Chinese developer, and also has several Chinese brands (Hongqi, NIO, Wuling, Xpeng, Yangwang) in the game. The Xiaomi SU7 is also in the game files, but has not been released for the game.

EA announced that their license has ended with WRC, meaning that there will be no more updates to the EA Sports WRC game, and the future of Codemasters and rally games is uncertain.

Project Motor Racing has been announced and is expected to have a Fall 2025 release:

A Formula Legends game is coming later this year:

I'm not sure if these 2 games will get major attention, given how the track racing game genre is already very saturated, and I'm not sure if F1 fans are interested in playing games outside of EA's annual slop release games.

Nobody working on Battlefield even knows how their FROSTBITE engine even works anymore, how will they be of any use to them?
Unless they switch over to UE5 slop like everyone else, which is somehow even more pathetic.

Sony accidentally revealed the 4 new cars for GT7's next week update:

I still don't understand Kaz's obsessions with adding more CUVs to the game, especially in a track racing game. At least they have use in open-world racing games, but they don't have much use in track games aside from the very few dirt and snow tracks. At least the C5 being added means that all of Corvette generations are playable.

It's a really complex issue regarding GT7 as a whole that can only be boiled down to this:

1. The lackluster career and menubooks' structure don't facilitate you to use your road cars, unlike literally any other GT game before Sport came along.
2. The daily races (which are actually weekly) only feature racecars. Outdated ones at that, like the Ferrari 458.
3. On the racecars' front - Polyphony is not willing to license new racecars, possibly due to all the other big simracing corporations already battling for what little data racing teams + manufacturers are willing to give out. Forza isn't realistic so they just license the racecar itself and do whatever the fuck they want regarding its physics. They still have an exclusivity deal with Super GT but that hasn't been utilized much since Sport, seeing as the latest GT500 cars are from like 2016.

It's overall just about how GT7 is built on top of GT Sport, and how it's trying to be a hardcore esport title whilst also trying to maintain its integrity of including a wide range of road cars. And it's clearly not working out, as every update GT7 gets more backlash gets thrown at Polyphony because where in the game would a Honda CRV or Suzuki Carry be useful for more than 10 minutes at a time?

PD also has an exclusive (?) license for Pikes Peak, but they haven't done anything with it since Gran Turismo 2. It seems as if they're sitting on the license just so that other racing games can't have that track.

Also, does the emphasis on the Scapes feature only to cash in on the trend of games adding Photo Modes to them (even if it doesn't fit the game, as I think even the newer Hitman games have one), or does Kaz's car autism also include taking photos of cars?

I cannot believe Sony has their Gran Turismo AND Forza (Horizon) for their platforms.

I wonder if Kaz still gives a shit about Gran Turismo.

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi made some tweets about Xiaomi, one about meeting Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun, and another about driving a 1500 HP car, which presumably could be the 1500+ HP Xiaomi SU7 Ultra:

It's also worth nothing that GT7 wasn't officially released in China, so people that play GT7 use imported copies of the game to play it on Chinese PS5s, and most Chinese players use HK accounts to play online since a lot of PS5s are imported from other countries.

I got an itch to break out the wheel and play Initial D Extreme Stage and am having a blast. I played the shit out of it 10-11 years ago and even then there were still people playing online and I managed to get up to SS rank to get the aura on my car. I know I tried to emulate one of the later arcade versions a few years after so I think I might try again after I get tired of this, they have to be in a much better spot now I imagine.
