racing games - no not racist games you fucking ni

With The Crew 1's servers officially shutdown, the game is no longer playable. However, the community is working on making a server emulator, to attempt to make the game playable offline:

Now that I think of it, Need for Speed: The Run incorporated a "race around America" theme before The Crew. The Crew had the advantage of being open world around a scaled down America, unlike The Run's linear, highway restricted America tracks. That's ONE aspect The Crew innovated for the racing genre: giving the player freedom to roam around a country like a road trip.

I've never played 2 but I have very fond memories of 1. It's such a cool little game. I just happened to replay it last week in about 2-3 hours, was a very fun evening. The soundtrack is a real fuckin brainworm, you can't get it out of your head for days.
I'll have to get me hands on it... whenever the fuck that'll be.

I never got the appeal of racing sims, but I play American Truck Simulator with Traffic Offenses turned off. Weaving in and out of traffic at 70-80mph through Vegas while David Allen Coe is blaring on the radio is my kind of rush.
Also please help I wrecked my truck and I'm drowning in debt.
It's a shame you don't see your employees on the road. I wanted to slowly take over the world with gaudy anime trailers.

I recommend Big Mutha Truckers for a real 'Murican Truckin' experience.

FM2023's Update 7 is out, which adds the Brands Hatch track:

And Assetto Corsa 2's title was officially revealed as Assetto Corsa Evo:

Fucking ACE coming out, I am fucking STOKED! HARD!

Honestly AC is like a racing blessing for me, it got me into sims and the fucking demon of a game will not let me go. So I am really interested in this new one. I hope they are cool with the mods scene with this game, it has kept AC alive for many years beyond a shitty no mod type game would allow.

This is probably because Assetto Corsa Competizione's internal name is "AC2" so they didn't want another "AC2" to make their workload confusing.
SP4 uploaded a video about Forza Motorsport 2023 few days ago, with a warning most of his Forza videos will be unlisted or deleted in weeks, possibly to distance himself away from Forza drama.
The problems in this video seems to be a deep rooted flaw of the game engine itself (and simracing in general) + the replay system, where cheats are extremely marginally different from top level gameplay. This is in pure opposition to Trackmania with fully deterministic inputs and specific gameplay tricks which makes it super easy to detect cheats.

Although ACC and a lot of other PC sims have the ability to store extremely accurate MoTeC telemetry data, and top level esports tournaments REQUIRE these MoTeC telemetry files. But Forza as a casual simcade offers an extremely basic telemetry that kind of only works to detect rage hacks or super obvious griphacks. Still it's extremely sad to see someone get treated like this for shedding light on a community that seems rotten from the inside out. I can only wish the best for Sepi from now onwards.

I've played NfS: Hot Pursuit (2010). It reminds me of stock car racing but with hypercars and highways substituting closed tracks. Through and through, Hot Pursuit HAS an identity that it sticks with from beginning to end: racing unmodified hypercars against each other on the open highway. That's something I cannot say with popular racers like Forza Horizon or The Crew.

I may have to play through Hot Pursuit again to understand its mechanical thrill. But, I commend Criterion/EA for maintaining a consistent vision in their product.

Škoda will be unveiling their Vision GT car for Gran Turismo 7 next week:

Again, VGTs are still being focused on for some reason, even with the lack of events in the game to actually use them.

The April GT7 update was revealed, with the usual three cars. They are the Škoda VGT, a prototype version of the Sony Honda Afeela, and the Chevy Chevelle SS;

And just on par for VGTs, the Škoda one looks just as hideous. At least the Chevelle actually has the SS badges, unlike how Microsoft forces the badges to be censored out in the Forza games.

Speaking of Forza, FH5 will get a bunch of racing cars, in both Playlist rewards and the usual Car Pack.

The cars in the Car Pack also being in FM2023, does feel a bit scummy though. At least the Corvette E-Ray is now available to all players, after FM2023 owners got a 5-6(?) month Early Access of the car in FH5.

Played Demolition Racer: No Exit back on the Dreamcast. Good times.
There was another one? Fuck's sake, if I'd known that when I was about 10 (at the very most) years old, I would have tried to hunt it down. Never had a Dreamcast, either, unfortunately. Not even a second hand one. Which made me disappointed 'cos I wanted Soul Calibur.

Oh, hold the phone: looks like No Exit is just what they called the Dreamcast version. I just looked it up.

It was effectively a full sequel. It had updated graphics, new ambient sound effect, new tracks, new cars, unlockable mini games, and an additional mode called "No Exit", which was basically last man standing. It also had a hardcore soundtrack.

Edit: Also owned and played Destruction Derby on the N64, which was was its only real competition at the time. Also a good time, even if the game was hard as balls.

I'll have to continue my retro video game collection sometime, and get those. Fuck knows when that'll be.

Went back and played Destruction Derby 2 a while back. This game holds up very well and is great, moronic fun. Especially love the way the track changes with the wreckage of the other cars throughout the race.
