It's sad that Rani's SRS left her with genitals that her boyfriend found unattractive. She suffered after that surgery - all MTF transfolk who go under the knife suffer. She will continue to suffer as she spends the rest of her life dilating her vagina to keep it from closing up. It has to suck to pay so much money for a procedure that is painful and will require vigilant aftercare for the rest of her life and end up with a body she and others may find unattractive
I also know that Rani hated her male genitalia and hoped that SRS would quell the anxiety her body caused her. I don't know if understanding that hating one's genitals is very much a female trait, a trait shared by millions and millions of American women, would have changed how Rani approached transitioning but Im sure she knew there was a chance she would not be happy with her surgical results. It had to suck to trade one hated set of genitals for a newer set that causes a different sort of body anxiety.
But in a sense, it's good this is happening to Rani because it's part of the female experience. Very few natal women feel entirely comfortable with their breasts or vaginal area. Labioplasty and anal bleaching are no longer procedures used mainly by porn actresses. Women worry about the way their vagina smells. They worry about its coloring, labia symmetry and length. They have these negative feelings for a number of reasons but it is undeniable that vagina-shame is common and affects how women see themselves and how they handle their sex lives. Feeling like your vagina is repulsive is just one part of the dark side of femininity.
Welcome to the club, Rani.
