Ralphabankruptcy Arc - "Where'd all the money go?"

Ralph is in a better sitution than most here are willing to admit.

There is no grounds to revoke his passport for child support. The State Dept. can refuse to renew said passport, and to not return said passport if he surrenders it, for example, to get additional pages. However, so long as the passport is out in the wild, he is in the clear. He also renewed his passport recently, so it will be at least 9 years until this enters the equation.

Let us assume that this changes and somehow the passport is void. He still has his canje and also has a Mexican driver's license to get by.

He can likely use Chapter 7 to get out from under the debt and keep everything except the truck. I would say that he is elgible under the Virginia exemptions which have $10K "tools of the trade" and a $10K "wildcard" to play with. If he continues making token payments to stave off child support delinquency, he should be able to muster the lump sum needed to move himself and his cats to South America and extracate himself from any agreement the state of California has with Mexico.
Bankruptcy:
Child support is not dischargeable in bankruptcy, nor does the automatic stay typically apply to domestic support obligations. Chapter 7 (or 13, though let's be real; he'd do a 7) could eliminate other unsecured debt and protect whatever qualifies as an exemption (either VA or Fed, not both), but not child support obligations by operation of law. It's a priority unsecured debt.

As for VA's exemption for tools of the trade, he doesn't have $10k worth of it. All he needs is a computer (internet service isn't an asset) and accessories. (I'm assuming he used the Playstation credit card to buy his tech and that he didn't enter into some secured arrangement for it; if secured, he's SOL.)

Here's the Virginia "Poor debtor's" [lol; actual title] set of exemptions beyond homestead, which isn't on the table (aww): https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title34/chapter3/section34-26/

Uh-oh! Family heirloom exemptions only up to $5k. The $30k paw-paw ring is in jeopardy!

As for the vehicle, exempt up to $6000, unless there's a perfected security interest (there almost certainly is).

(Phew, pets are exempt)

And in general, a financed vehicle, especially without much equity, isn't protected, at least not without some meaningful payment.

On child support again:
The token payments to keep any arrearage under $2500 would have to increase if he's not staying current. (Example: If you owe $800/mo in support and are $2300 in arrears, then pay $500, taking it to $1800, and in month two again pay $500 on the new $800 owed, you're now at $2100 in arrears. In month 3, again $500 on the $800, you're now at $2400 in arrears. Month 4 you're over the $2500 (owe $3200, pay $500 = $2700).). And if things move ahead and you go on the list, you now are subject to revocation/denial until your arrearage is $0.

And the "surrender" stuff you mention is what "revocation" is. So if he's over $2500 in arrears and the obligee/state did what they needed to do to get him on the list, then yes, there are grounds for what is termed revocation. Revocation requires the physical passport. It can't get canceled/nullified in absentia. But if he ever needs to renew or anything else and is on the list, he would not be able to do until arrear age is down to $0.

Understood that there's potentially a long time until he would wind up passport-less, and guys like Ethan will take that gamble. But guys like Ethan (drunk or pilled) are also prone to losing important things. Even when not getting beat up on street corners.

Yeah, but this is Ralph we're talking about. Ralph would rather drive something flashy, even if it's a giant piece of shit because all he cares about is how he looks to people he's trying to grift donos off.
I don't think the guntmobile had anything to do with wanting something flashy. Dick drives a pickup truck and the Nissan shitbox was the only pickup Ralph could get financed.

Not gonna lie, I'm not a big fan of cows living in poverty while their alogs make a living shitting on them. I want Ralph, Fatrick and others to have enough money to be smug about it, but not DSP and Rekieta.
Ralph already had his rich nigga arc where he pretended he's Carmen Sandiego and "traveled around the world". Naturally now it's time for broke ass nigga arc.
I for one am looking forward to it but I admit it won't be as entertaining as his rich nigga act.

Oh no, Ralphabros…Not like this!!!

I’m honestly surprised he never got popped for a Covid fraud scheme. He seems the type.
He’s too stupid to figure out how to pull off a benefits scam.

Think of it like this. Mama applied for all the bennies while he was a kid. When he got his GED and went to college, (where he didn’t graduate BTW), the folks at the financial aid office did all the work getting him his Pell Grant and signing him up for his student loans. When Faith or Meigh needed bennies for themselves or their babies it was on them to get what they could. Ethan Ralph wouldn’t know how to apply for Govt Benefits and even if he did he’s too stupid to be able to fill out the application.

One more thing, is Gunt a convicted felon? Was the swing and a miss on that lady cop a felony conviction? Revenge porn? I ask because a felony on your record severely curtails the amount of benefits you qualify for.

He lacked the mental ability to even apply for relief. Nora was gone.
You beat me to it!
