The experiment could work in reverse though... like would you be willing to die at, say, 65 if it meant being able to find whatever your approximation of "true love" is along with massive fame/recognition.

Or the "Robin Williams" route... dead from suicidal depression at 65, but you live your life rich, famous, adored and loved... but you suffer from horrible, endless depression.

If life were all about a give and take of balanced gains and sacrifices, what would you be willing to suffer through or lose in order to get more than others.

Well one would assume you'd be working as a wage slave if not the other option, but in doing so you'd have to give up like 1/3rd of your adult life for the daily grind.

You could say open your own business or get a job doing something you really love, but obviously that wouldn't really be an option for someone like Chris, even if he was somewhat squared away.

The effective thought experiment is... would you sacrifice dignity/respect/admiration/belonging/love in order to extend your life span by 1/3rd.

A third of my life as in being really old or do I stop aging for a few decades? I do not want to be an old man at 90 trying to eat biscuits with no fucking teeth.

It was more than just depression for Robin though. He was dealing with some serious medical issues like Lewy body disease, and undergoing the first stages of dementia. While he did suffer from serious depression it wasn't the only factor in his suicide. Although I do agree with the basic point you're making, I'm just being pedantic.
