I did some sleuthing, and just by looking around on this thread I think I figured out the timeline;
  • November 4th Chris posts on patreon after slowing down his production of Sonichu comic pages, says he's been busy with a commissioned drawing, says "This masterpiece is not part of the Sonichu literature, and I will personally be delivering it to her soon after completion. After that I will personally share this piece with y'all as well"
  • November 4th Chris mentions Hyperdimensional Neptunia for the first time, when asked if he played the games he said "Going to; I Enjoy the Anime"
  • November 4th, same day again, Joshua joins Kiwifarms under the name @Ballzymaker94 - posts his first post on the same thread asking if anybody knows who Chris is drawing that commission for.
  • November 4th again, Joshua posts on Reddit that Chris has gotten into Hyperdimensional Neptunia on the fan subreddit.
  • November 5th, Joshua posts on the same thread "This is a long shot, but could we be looking at a potential saga? This mystery commission and his sudden interest in Neptunia could mean something."
  • November 7th, Chris shares the commissioned drawing, it's of the enemies of Hyperdimensional Neptunia attacking CWCville. "They hit us big with Graduon and his crew last Saturday afternoon" previous Saturday before that post was November 4th. Joshua also posts a lot of replies in that thread, seems like he has a lot to say about that post.
  • November 8th, Chris makes this huge Facebook post. He says "it all started a couple of weeks ago, when I got word of a certain gaming console I still have which may hold a very special power", "my new contact, here in this reality, who was from Neptunia, and I have been back and forth with the recent events"
  • The following months, Chris posts content which seems obviously influenced by somebody else, this clues people in on Joshua and they refer to him as Idea Guy.
  • January 23rd 2018 - @neural makes a post on everything he knows about Joshua, and the things Joshua got Chris to do. He says "I don't know how he originally contacted Chris, but Ballzy approached him as John Yamada" - Chris mentions first getting in contact with John (aka Joshua) in this unreleased comic page - says "October 25th, 2017... The life of miss Christine Weston Chandler, myself, was beginning to change forever... this is our story... on this fateful day I was contacted by a soldier of Gamindustri, simply going by the name of John. John had texted my phone inquiring of the Sega console I still possessed. He was investigating the possibility of it being the one spiral console of this world holding a portal that could transport me to my actual city and nation of CWCville"
So this places Joshua texting Chris on Octorber 25th, a full 10 days before Chris even mentioned Hyperdimensional Neptunia in public and before he had even played any of the games. Chris said that on October 27th, he placed his hand on his Dreamcast and got possessed by his Neptunia Waifu after leaving the Dreamcast on for 24 hours. Which means that all this Hyperdimensional Neptunia involvement was because of Joshua texting him.
Also Chris said the first two drawings were payed commissions, so we learned that Joshua did give Chris money for content.
So it is possible that Chris knew of Hyperdimensional Neptunia before Joshua texted him, but Chris didn't begin to obsess over it until after he did.

Oh and this might be minor but related, Chris brought a game for the Sega Dreamcast on October 28th, one which lets him use a microphone to talk to his Dreamcast.

Edit: Another thing I've noticed, on November 4th Chris mentioned he would deliver the comissioned drawing personally, says "to her" so we can assume the gender is female. Neural said Joshua got Chris to drive to a Gamestop to go meet Neptune, could this be who Chris was planning on giving his drawings to?

I like your post a lot and it's quite enlightening to me, but I have one minor correction: I didn't say that that post was everything I knew.

Now don't get me wrong, I didn't hoard content, I sent everything to @yawning sneasel before making that post, and I later shared it with @The American Hedgehog for CWCki archival purposes, and I see most of the stuff made it just fine into the Idea Guy page.

I originally intended that post to be a streamlined answer post for the 2 or 3 burning questions swirling around back then, with the possibility of maybe making a follow up post in the case my initial post sparked more questions or if I neglected a critical aspect of this affair. But the IG megathread was quickly closed, and I felt that by then, most people were pretty much satisfied with the answers they got.

2 important things that I don't recall being mentioned by anyone:

1) The Discord thing wasn't Ballzy's work, it was mentioned in a Neptunia post, I asked him about it, and he firmly denied it (Said he didn't know where it came from), in fact, one of his stated objectives were to get finished with the pony stuff over ASAP. So Chris's sanity was already descending before Josh came into the picture, though I think Josh has exacerbated the problem, but that's just my personal opinion.

2) Josh said that Chris lurks here quite a bit (back then, Chris was desperately looking for Jessica's info dump, despite what he said about getting over her), I don't know how much reading he does, but I think Chris changing his Steam profile to private is definitely proof of this, you see, it can't be trolls or weens because Ballzy mentioned to me that independent trolls had found Chris's account and were already messing with him in games. But the profile was turned to private almost immediately after @The American Hedgehog shared it in a near 500 page thread. That action is very telling to me..

The more I read about Chris trying to find a way to transport himself into cartoon world the more I'm reminded of Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite. Let's just hope Chris doesn't decide to hook himself up to some sort of gaming console and electrocute himself in an attempt to travel to Cwcville. Or burn his house down...again.

Nah, if Chris touched an exposed power cord plugged into the mains, he'd be more than mildly electrocuted. If you put your hand on a running Dreamcast it would be a more tactile experience than just about any other console, because it is so loud and has that fan blowing out the side. He's just dumb.

Ian McMurchie Is it easier to draw upright? I never thought to try it.

Jessica Quinn It's basically the equivalent of an intense workout for him. I wouldn't try it unless you're in adequate physical condition.

Probably not. Chris probably believes his mom will live to be 120 or something. If Chris got knocked up and hard a kid (which is even remotely possible, even if he did have a sex change and had a uterus implanted into him it wouldnt work either. Chris believes he can get pregnant and have a kid because he doesn't know jackshit about human anatomy), he would expect Barb to watch it. Every once in awhile, Chris will be reminded by his mom that he should say hi to his kid, and just like he does with his feral dogs, Chris would go to the kid, say "hmm, yeah" then shit himself and do nothing. CPS would ultimately take the kid away due to negligence, and then we would get the "child endangerment" saga, and Chris will finally get his wish of fighting those dang dirty jerkops.
