Earlier today I attempted to discuss this song and was met with contempt and cynicism from bad-faith commenters. So I'd like to try and have a more civilized discussion this time: is this song a fake parody, or is it a well kept secret that the Beatles ignored/obfuscated for years to avoid controversy?
People here acted as those this song was fake and or a joke, but you can see in the video that Paul is composing the song in the moment and it seems to be an earnest moment of songwriting. This footage looks to be from the Get Back documentary that came out a few years ago but I don't remember it being in the movie, therefore it may have been put on the cutting room floor (understandably so) and later sneakily uploaded to the internet by an editor for the sake of posterity.
What were The Beatles trying to achieve in this song? Was it a cheeky bit of dark British humor or were they actually endorsing animal abuse? I don't know what the times were like in the 1960s as I was -32 years old at the time so I hope to gain some context or better understanding here
PS: please don't ruin this discussion for other commenters with negative comments or thread-derailing. the Steve Hoffman forums should be a place for open and healthy discussion without bickering or discrimination, thank you in advance
