The ones that run on small radioactive samples do lose effectiveness after a long while, because of the half-life of the sample inside.

They did a sleep study that showed blacks have a lower quality of sleep because they won’t change the fucking batteries.
 
It's the fucking weirdest shit, like I've heard the beep in videos from blacks who have millions of dollars from either acting or shucking and jiving. Im sure there is even cases where its made its way into porn because of how over representative blacks are in that industry

Those are disposables. They last the requisite 10 years iirc. I've seen ones from the 90s that still beep when you put smoke in them, but it doesn't mean they're effective.

A ton of houses have those, they're better when there's a fire but it makes the dogs go crazy on a false alarm.
t. had a job where I had to test and replace smoke detectors all day.

You really gotta wonder if it's really a lack of attention span and sense of permanence. "What dis noise? Oh it gon now. What dis noise? Oh it gon now. What dis noise? Oh it gon now".
Gotta start making, uh, "urban" smoke detectors that don't just beep every 30 seconds, but every ten seconds so certain demographics don't forget to feed the hallway bird.
 
On early morning walks I can hear chirps echo all throughout the hood I live in. Dozens of times. Like a flock of Ghetto birds.

One girl in this comp has possibly several going off, or just one very talkative detector.

Not a video with an instance of the chirp, but rather a quick one about the phenomenon. I think it makes an interesting case about genetic differences in hearing being a potential cause.
 
Not a video but I do have an amusing anecdote of my own. Among the many jobs and clients I have to keep myself busy one of them is a set of rental properties in a college town. There's probably a name for the style of housing, but basically it's a house with four large full bed/bathrooms that all have secured doors and a shared living space/kitchen.

The owner was a black lady, and of the four kids living there three were black and one was white. While I was working on whatever it was that the owner showed me the alarm was chirping quite vigorously, as they are so wont to do in homes of color. It was close to the end of the day as I was wrapping up the list and I didn't have a battery or my ladder so I didn't mention it because I didn't feel like picking up a battery and finding something to stand on or coming back the next day so I just ignored it, as did the gentlemen of melanin. The white guy seemed to be all too aware of it, though. He was just sitting on the couch with his airpods in looking incredibly stressed out and like he hadn't slept
