I like how Chris assumed either David or Carol would step up to bat and take care of Barb on his behalf, despite them having no actual familial ties to her whatsoever. He’s so desperate for a carefree life that he’d be willing to dump her on people who might as well be total strangers to him.

Honestly I didn't account for chris's internet infamy as to why his relatives didn't like him. When he said that all of barbs relatives that outlived Aunt Corrina hated barb and weren't very fond of him, this was after he got discovered by the internet. Aunt Corrina died 2 years after ED first made their page on him, and by then all of his relatives on barbs side probably knew about his online infamy and just decided to never talk to him. If we're being honest it's better they don't have contact with him.

Well there’s also the unsubstantiated reports that Barb tried to get friendly with her sisters husbands, but I don’t know how much of that is CWCki legend. But let’s face it, Barb seems like the type.

And I wouldn't be surprised if those two are so coldly ostracized from those people that static, baseline civility was perceived as warmth. And on the flip, considering the unreliable narrator, the family might not even be so exclusionary; it seems both Chris & Mommie Dearest just percieve anything short of outright hero worship as unwarranted persecution & total douchebaggery.

There's almost always that one person who decides to hold out on joining everyone else in being an outright dick to the "embarrassment relatives", because reasons. Those old-timers especially can be like that.

And I wouldn't be surprised if those two are so coldly ostracized from those people that static, baseline civility was perceived as warmth. And on the flip, considering the unreliable narrator, the family might not even be so exclusionary; it seems both Chris & Mommie Dearest just percieve anything short of outright hero worship as unwarranted persecution & total douchebaggery.

The thing is, Chris’s extended family is full of people who are pretty much on death’s door. It’s not uncommon for the elderly to lose touch with everyone except their children (and even in healthy relationships, it’s not unheard of for grown children to only be able to visit once or twice a year because of their jobs, kids, distance, etc). Chris really got fucked with the cards life gave him. If his parents weren’t ancient when they had him, he might’ve had more of a enmeshed family situation. Now he gets to experience the hardship of outliving all of his immediate family despite only being in his late 30s. Most people don’t have to worry about this until their late 50s/early 60s. It’s pretty much the only aspect of Chris’s life that he’s ahead of the curve in.

I wouldn't say she was fond of Charb, but would assume aunt corrina was far closer and much more tolerant of them than the other relatives are. If she did hate them as much as the other relatives then the chandlers would never have Patti.

For it to be wiining, by definition, you should be trying to epictrollz Chris in whatever you're trying to do. Of course you always run the risk of someone thinking you're actually trying to wiin when you're not but I doubt tweeting Chris "hey Chris what's up with X" is going to be misconstrued.

That being said, I think our "moral" principle around here is to not interfere unless there's an emergency (ie, Chris' care-package post-housefire). I don't think anyone here would hold you to that but you should ask yourself why you're trying to talk to a heavily autistic individual online instead of sitting back, enjoying the show and using your time doing literally anything else instead.

If you feel like you absolutely need to (for whatever reason), do not do any of the following:

1) Use a twitter account tied to any of your online identities. Use a throwaway.

2) Screenshot it and/or announce on here that you attempted contact with him. If he responds and you get that little dopamine hit from OPL deeming your presence worth his time, be satisfied with that and continue on with your life.


I still would advise against it, but if doing so makes you happy, have a ball. Just don’t whine if you get any unwanted attention from weens.

I feel like Bob had control on Chris and could stop the craziest of Chris' ideas, but once Bob passed, the dam broke lose.

He'd be at least somewhat successful in being self-sufficient. Not great, mind you, but at least to the point where he'd have a low-end job, spending money on rent, food and maybe some hobby stuff.
That hobby stuff not being games, because maybe Bob would have gotten him to grow out of video games, it would probably be old music and all the other stuff that Bob wanted him to be conscious of.

Pretty much this. I cut Bob a lot of slack, and genuinely would have liked to had gotten to know him, but his beliefs were a product of his time, and I think it's pretty well established Chris's homophobia and racism came from Bob. Chris just parrots back whatever he's told to believe.

That said, I still think Bob would have been a huge improvement on Chris' life. He certainly would have tried to establish some sort of work ethic in the boy. Chris would have never been able to hold down a white collar job, but he could have contributed in some way, even as a burger flipper or cart wrangler or door greeter. He definitely would have cracked down harder on discipline and conduct. Remember how angry and disgusted he was at Chris' high school graduation after his hissy fit? I'm positive he would have nipped Chris' tomgirl thing in the bud.

Bob fucked up, he gave up on trying, but how much of that can be attributed to Barb's control over Chris vs. Bob's age and incompetence? I really do think if Barb had been out of the picture earlier, Bob had taken Chris and split, his life would have turned out better. Still a shit life, but not the trainwreck it is now.

Yeah I know. I don't know if that is due in part to Bob just giving up, or if it was Barb pushing for it. Bob also pushed Chris into getting his CAD degree and his job at Wendy's. Like I said, Bob wasn't the best parent, but I still think he's the better one if Barb is the sole competition.
