Chris Chan is the ultimate case of someone peaking in high school.
I don't think there's much truth to the idea that the nerds have the last laugh/the popular kids crash and burn after high school. Maybe they won't become rich and famous, but many of the ASB kids from my high school ended up becoming nurses, teachers, realtors, and other respectable professions. None of them ended up homeless or in jail 7-10 years onward (depending on grade).
The whole "nerds win in the end/if you call them geek now, you'll call them CEO then" thing reminds me of famous singers telling the public to follow your passion. Easy for you to say. Bill Gates might not be conventionally attractive, and he's somewhat reclusive, but he has people skills, tact, and nuance. Steve Jobs was a showman, Shigeru Miyamoto was playful and witty, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson has the tact and humility to accurately simplify complex phenomena for an average audience.
Chris Chan was good with computers from an early age, and he had "nerdy" interests like comics and cartoons. But while he was nerdy, he didn't do well in school, and only claimed honor roll by taking remedial classes. He's the kind of nerd who most definitely can peak in HS. He still liked fairly mainstream things, unlike the nerd who strives to memorize every subway route in the USA, or the absolute nerd who lectures you on the history of the DX7 when you just want to chill out and listen to music...
Chris Chan also genuinely seem to think that the un poquito he picked up in school means he's fluent in Spanish...
And I think I'm there.
AT LEAST I CAN PLAY INSTRUMENTS AND PROPERLY DEFINE RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY
