Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

You know, having mentioned Harry Potter in another post, I got thinking about Chris' hatred of the Harry Potter franchise. Yeah, we know about his obsession with brand loyalty, and how he latches onto fads. Heck, his current obsession with collecting every Lego seems to be in that vein. But what I find interesting is that he spews his hatred towards things that aren't even related or really in competition with his obsessions.

For example, Harry Potter doesn't have much to do with Sonic or Pokemon. It was a book series about a boy wizard that was popular when he was younger. By that time, I'm pretty sure Sonic and even Pokemon had already passed their heydays. Moreover, it was an entirely different (and, I believe, older) audience. Do you think Chris just hated Harry Potter because it encouraged people to read, or because he hated fantasy as a literary genre and couldn't elucidate it, or did he really believe they were in competition?

And while we're on that subject, why wouldn't Chris have figured out that other, often childish things that he likes were more often than not in competition with each other? He never voiced any objection to Mario, for example, and even enjoyed Mario Kart, yet that's pretty much in direct competition with Sonic. I think he also sperged out on Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon, which would be in competition with Pokemon. Obviously those things appealed to him in much the same way that Sonic and Pokemon did, but how could he not see that they were competitors? Heck, I think Mario was even more popular than Sonic. Shouldn't that have bugged him?

but I seem to recall an event where Chris was bitching at Barb because he didn't want to keep his sex-dolls in the cupboard because they would melt in there.

Ewww.... gross! In fact, everything about this conversation is pretty foul and disgusting.

Kacey Call 15. His mother is yelling at him about cleaning up (lol) and he's making a bunch of excuses about it and mentions that moving his love doll somewhere will cause it to melt.

You know, she's pretty blasé about it all. Granted neither Barb nor her little Chrissun are too astute in the social arena. It may very well have passed for "normal" conversation in the Chandler household. But surely she must have known that talking to your bloody son about his sex dolls isn't exactly encouraged in the outside world. I can't help but wonder if she wasn't trying to embarrass Chris in front of Kacey because she feared losing her precious manchild to another woman.

Ew. He has a jizz covered love doll in his kitchen and nobody fucking cares?

Borb knew Chris would never get laid, so they allowed shit like that.

It's like that retard I read about a few years back whose mom bought him a prosititute because she was well aware an actual relationship just wasn't in the cards for him.

Chris' situation is infinitely more fucked up of course.

I would be inclined to think people in general, and more particularly children, feel those things because their friends move on to the new interests, and if you dont like the new thing youre fucked. So, why would cwc even give a shit if people who dont talk to him like things he doesnt?

He really believed they were competing with one another. I forget who on this forum said it, but Chris somehow recognized that pokeyman's popularity was waning and Harry Potter was becoming more popular. So to an uber-autist like Chris, the only logical conclusion was that Harry Potter was stealing TRUE and HONEST porkymon fans away.

So, why would cwc even give a shit if people who dont talk to him like things he doesnt?

Because Chris is autistic and thinks that everyone who put up with his shit in high school was a friend for life? Actually, he probably didn't care all that much about the male JERKS he went to high school with caring about Pokemon or not. He probably did care what the younger kids who played Pokemon were into though. And as fewer and fewer kids came in each weekend to play, Chris probably got upset. I mean, like I said before, things like Sonic didn't seem all that popular as I grew up (though to be fair I didn't pay much attention to "kids stuff" when I was a teenager). I'm sure the kids were watching shows from their own generation and Chris couldn't relate to them. And of course kids grow up and get embarrassed that they ever played Pokemon. Of course some of them would have grown out of it. Chris couldn't comprehend that. I mean, he STILL plays with the same toys he did when he was a kid. Wouldn't be surprised if that damned stuffed Sonic is still lingering around somewhere...

No, you're not fucked.

Well, Chris in general isn't fucked because he's Virgin with Rage, right? Haha. But no, I get what Chikinballs was saying and its sort of true.

Sonic as a brand was never that fucking popular, except the games. Im not too much older than chris, and i dont recall the cartoon, other merch, or shirts and shit being popular at all. I dont even remember the cartoon existing to be honest.

WTF is "Micro Mornings"? I googled this and only got links to a microbiology conference at Caltech.

I just had a thought.

Do you think Megan still collects MLP? Or did Chris ruin it/slash grew out of it?
I wonder if she lurks amongst us, or checks the cwcki.

She seemed pretty adamant about him ruining things for her. I bet even if she does, which i hope she outgrew that shit for her sake, they are forever tainted...meaning she pictures him rubbing them on his dirty, crapped taint.

Yeah, that's true. As I've said before, I lived through the 80s though I never thought of Sonic as all that popular. I was at least dimly aware of the existence of a Sonic cartoon at some point, though I never watched it. In fact, even when I was a kid I think it was aimed at a much younger audience. Sonic probably peaked around the time of what... the third game? The one where they added Knuckles? Then again, Sega wasn't really all that popular with any of my friends so maybe things were different in Virginia. Certainly by the time you would have been in junior high school, wearing a Sonic t-shirt would have been embarrassing.

I'm sure microbiologists would be interested in Chris. He's gotta be swarming with interesting bacteria and fungi.

Is it bad that I kind of hope she does? I'd love to pick her brain. Megan seems relatively normal. I mean, sure she has some of those stereotypical anime fangirl traits, but we were all young and stupid once. I'm sure she's outgrown most of that stuff, unlike Chris. Hell, Megan's practically a saint for putting up with his crap for so long...

If your friends move on to new interests, you've got to make decisions on how to handle that. It's a part of growing up.

Eh, she put up with Chris for as long as they were friends. Unless she had other motivations, like still wanting him to buy her stuff online, she's neither good nor bad for dealing with Chris.

I got what you were saying. I just had to make a joke at Chris' expense. No, seriously, I get that people grow up and move on. I mean, I stopped hanging out with some people after grade school, and still others after high school, and... well college was more complicated I guess. But peoples' interest change. I've understood that since I was a kid. Unlike Chris, and many of my classmates, I never based my interests on what was popular. I liked some things, and gravitated towards some people who shared my interests or hobbies yes, but I also liked some things that weren't especially popular or well known in my area.

Interestingly enough, Chris seems to do that too. He obsesses over things that either weren't popular at all, or were popular decades or generations ago but that people in his age group wouldn't know about. He clings to Sonic even though (as Chikinballs and I sort of discussed above) it isn't the most popular franchise. It's almost as if he wants to make everyone else into a fan of his own particular interests.

Yeah, I'm aware that she used Chris to get things. You know what though, she still tolerated a lot of crap from him. The constant groping immediately springs to mind. I'm amazed she didn't cut off all contact with him a lot sooner. And if she's out there, I'd be happy to talk to her about her experience (not that she necessarily wants to; can't say I'd blame her either).

And no, this isn't getting into A-Log territory. I'm not saying Chris is a monster or pervert or anything. But I don't see him being able to form long term friendships with anyone, least of all women. He's... Chris. Honestly, he might have been better off if Megan was still around to hold his hand and force him to interact with people like a normal(ish) human being.

Oh no, I actually don't buy the "exploitation" angle people have with Megan. I believe their friendship was genuine. I just mentioned that because that's a common reason people bring up.

I don't think Megan did much handholding with Chris.

One would think he'd despise Harry Potter for competing with Goosebumps, but no.

Relating this to the current fixation on LEGO, I'm awaiting Chris' declaration of holy war upon Mega Bloks and the like.

It really wouldn't be surprising if Borb got him some as a cheap birthday present. Though really, why would he hate them? He's got Kree-o blocks in his voodoo highschool, and to a manbabby like him more colored blocks is more colored blocks. He's not all that picky.
