Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

This might seem trivial, but something crossed my mind... Chris had to miss Pancake Day due to his aunt's passing. I have a slight feeling, he said something inappropriate, selfish, or embarrassing at the viewing and/or funeral. If so could it be just another reason behind the alienation between them and the rest of the family on both sides?

That's a good theory that I never thought about before. That was the last time Chris brought up his outside family, except for Cole and "Savannah" of course.

I had actually posted this in the 'What if' thread but I think that was the wrong spot. I think this makes more sense here...

Just going to quote it from it's original location. If this is out of line just let me know.

My roommate and I were discussing 'Crystal', and the oddness of Crystal being both Chris's 'twin' and also being the name of his 'daughter'.

My roommate suggested that it's possible that when he had the dream that the name wasn't decided, and that he chose it later. Which may be true, but something else occurred to me-
  • 'Crystal' is not really the obvious choice for a female twin- knowing Chris and his laziness when it comes to naming things (See Simonchu vs Simonla as an example, or 'Naitsirhc'). A more obvious choice for him would of been Christina- and even when discussing why he chose the name, he said it sounded 'similar to mine, but with a nice ring to it'- which knowing how important his name is to him, something 'important' must of imprinted 'Crystal' in his mind
  • He called 'Crystal' an 'illustrious \M/ETAL'
  • Chris loves Pokemon
Pokemon Crystal was the first Pokemon game that allowed the player to choose a female trainer, and came out shortly after Pokemon Gold and Silver (which are both actually named after metals- which I can see as 'leading' him to believe crystals are also metals).

I speculate that when Chris got Pokemon Crystal (and I have no doubt that he bought and played it), he chose the female protagonist, which may of put into his head the idea of "what if I were a girl?", or "what if I had a female counterpart?", and embedded the idea that Crystal = female to him.

Just thoughts.

I think one of the things that would be striking against my theory would be that his female version doesn't look like the heroine in Pokemon Crystal, and he's usually a slave to copying things like that, but then I remember all his female characters more or less look identical. That and 'Crystal' is a more ... literal, I guess, version of Chris as a female. Of course she wouldn't dress like the character in the game, she's Chris as a girl, so of course she'd like clown shirts, etc...

Would this theory fit in to the timeline of Chris? Where about in the time line did Crystal first appear, in comparison to the release of Pokemon Crystal?

Chris first talked about the dream where he had to save Crystal having occurred when he was 7-9, or between 1989-1991, well before anything Pokémon was released. He implies that the name Crystal was something given to him in the dream.

Whatever the cause is, it's kind of sad, because in my opinion, family is usually something to be cherished, (Save for the disfunctional ones) And though relatives might not agree, keeping a family bond strong is not only supportive, but when hard times fall on one household, other relatives are likely to lend support of some kind, but it's a two way street. And I have a lot to give back in some form or another to my relatives for all the times they were there for me in good times and bad. My relatives don't always agree, but that's human. We still care about one another and have had the fortune of being able to share memories. Some members have somewhat distanced themselves but still care. But as we know, Chris may have only been a part of the problem. And the sad thing is, if the Chandlers kept in touch with the rest of the family and stuff and were perhaps more supportive, I think they would have helped the family at 14BC out through their struggles... But to name all the factors that distanced them... Well, the number would probably fall short of fact and there probably not enough hours in a day (even for someone like Chris) to name them. We will never likely know. But I just think that if they hadn't distanced themselves from one another, They could have had a variety of support say, when Bob's health took a turn for the worse, just to name one. This said, I wouldn't wish this kind of mess on anyone.

It's kinda like Chris and his gal-pals. True, it's been confirmed that they didn't like him in the way he thought they did, but even so, how much effort did he go to to maintain the connections he made? By his own admission, he never made any concerted effort to socialize with them outside school hours, nor did he keep in touch with letters or phone calls. Yeah, the ladies distanced themselves, but importantly, Chris made no effort to keep in contact, so that all those "friendships" fell by the wayside is ultimately his fault.

Compare this with his extended family. How much effort have the Chandlers and Westons expended to keep in touch? There are the occasional familial obligations (like Corrina's funeral) and weddings (Jonathan Carey), but they're just that: obligations. They dropped off Christmas presents for Dave and his family, but the fact that they weren't home is extremely telling. (You can almost hear them thinking "They can't turn us away if we surprise them.")

This is kinda why I think both sides of the family are merely estranged and not irrevocably separated. It's not a withholding of communication; it just simply doesn't exist. (Though if anyone could track down a younger Weston or Chandler's social media profile and see if there is indeed regular family gatherings, that would change this bizarre scenario entirely.)

Who's Scarlet?
On the CWCki there's an article called Chris's Big Night Out II and mentions a gal-pal named Scarlet.

I think Chris' writing may be influenced by American comics. He frequently capitalizes some words for emphasis and all-caps some others for even greater emphasis, just like words in American comics are frequently bolded or bolded and italicized.

That, and/or it seems that he thinks he needs to indicate emphasis literally and obviously, without regard to proper capitalization.

Didn't they also attend a wedding that year? The one Chris used as an alibi for BILLY MAYS' death and gave a wedding present of a drawing of Sonichu and Rosechu or some shit?

There's no doubt in my mind that's what happened. Of course no-one said anything for fear of envoking Snorlax's rage.

As for Chris wearing the medalion of fail, he probably took so long getting dressed on the morning that Borb gave up and just threw their retard in the car.

They attended the wedding of Chris' cousin, John Carey, although I don't remember what year that happened. It's probably on the CWCki.

It was June 2009, after Aunt Corrina's passing/pancake day. Maybe Chris embarrassed the Chandlers at the wedding and not Corrina's funeral - perhaps he threw a tantrum because his JERK relatives were getting some china.
What am I saying? He probably threw a tantrum at both events.

Actually, I believe this was probably one of the very few times that other people could (and maybe did) call Chris (and Barb) out on their shitty behavior and not have to worry about the consequences. After all, the only two options Borb had were lawsuits and threatening to never talk to anyone else in the family again. Neither of which their relatives would fear (and in the case of Borb threatening to cut contact, that probably seemed like a bonus).

In the DVD slideshow, Chris mentions some art projects he did that he of course thinks should have earned him some awards. Namely, a "Star Rainbow Coil Pot", a "Computer Graphics Poster", a "ceramic Hot Dog Sonic the Hedgehog Happy Meal", and a "Lounging Autistic Student Sculpture" (front, back). I found some of these in the gallery on the Chris and Art article, but I didn't see the "Hot Dog Sonic the Hedgehog Happy Meal". Does anyone know if there's a photo of that?

Surely it's not the infamous totem, is it? I guess that vaguely resembles a hot dog, but I always thought it looked more like Brian Peppers than a happy meal.
