i think he took from some south park episode were they mentioned a captain's log without full on talking about star trek (the start of the episode passion of the jew iircc) we do know he purchased a star trek video game as a child in the watch and win sweepstakes for the sega genesis so theres also that assuming he kept and continued to play said game for well over 20 odd years or so.
