it does not take years of knowing him just to know that he isn't capable of that.
Capable or not, he simply cannot be bothered.
In Virginia, the court has to set him up somewhere within 30 days of his release
If I read the law correctly, the court has to
try to find somewhere for him for 30 days, after which they can wash their hands of him and toss him out onto the streets. BUT if the court does that, it will only be a matter of hours before Chris fucks up again and lands right back in the court's lap. The court does NOT want to have to deal with Chris again. Who would?
Finding somewhere to chuck him is difficult.
I suspect these "mental evaluations" are actually placement interviews, and it looks like Chris has failed all of them. That or they have found a place for him, but a bed won't be opening up there for months, so they gave themselves a nice, long continuance while they wait.
Either way, Chris is not going back to 14BLC or Barb. If the courts don't make sure of that, Tom and Harriet certainly will.
Could a halfway house work?
Chris needs more management than that.
The question is which he likes less: that situation or the streets.
It will probably take a few trials for him to work this out. I expect Chris will collect more and more "Judases" (Judi?) like
@Null as various people try to step in and help him before realizing that's an impossible waste of time. They should make t-shirts: "I tried to save Chris from himself, and all I got was this lousy shirt."
