No, he doesn't. He's autistic. He assumed that if he knew what it meant, everyone would. He didn't even really assume that as an active thing, it's just not the kind of thing his autistic mind is even capable of considering. He just got lucky that even if you didn't know the story, you'd know the metaphor. If you, unlike Chris, weren't autistic.
And how desperately he seized on the "high-functioning" part, thinking it meant he was some kind of genius instead of actually meaning just not being a completely nonfunctional head-banging retard who couldn't even speak, because most people getting the autistic diagnosis back then were institutional cases.
Maybe, but a chatbot literally has ZERO understanding. Also remember Chris was somewhat more "high-functioning" then than he is now. He could actually read things like Hans Christian Andersen stories. Or maybe he saw an adaptation. But anyway he did grasp the story, at least as it pertained to him personally.

Really though? Chris did genuinely make many strangely risqué or gay comments even before Troll interference. The old CWCki article even had an old list of hints that Chris could be gay on the Homos article. Keep in mind lots of these were completely unprompted by trolls. Even when they were they were still stuff that hadn’t been forced out of him in any way.
I think you're underestimating how visceral and genuine his discomfort with male people and male bodies was.
