Continuing on with the PokeMania sperging, this video cements to me that he latched onto this show instead of the variety of cool teen media that was out at the time.

He's the oldest kid in that clip. I actively looked for anyone else in his age group and found nothing.

That's one thing I don't get about Chris is why his tastes in media stopped haven't changed much since he discovered Pokemon in the 90s.

What always gets me is that Chris in that video is all alone, playing the two-players card game by himself while the store is packed with kids crazy about pokemon too. Sure, some of the parents there were probably creeped out by a high schooler dressed as a cartoon character and others probably concluded he was special needs, but the kids had no such malice.

If there's one thing that Pokemon did right, is that it really did bring all kinds of young people together like nothing before and since. Even the losers and loners were considered cool if they watched the anime, played the games and collected the cards. Pokemon was a collective experience. And Chris was there during peak Pokemon, alone.
Eventually he got that experience too, playing tournaments at the Place and becoming a TCG Gym Leader assistant but we know he didn't make any friends there because he was an asshat.

The sad thing is the start contrast from 1999 to 2019. Pokémon was a simple trading card game that kids could pick up easily. The shipfic game Chris had his art custom printed for barley made any sense on its own. Him making his own homebrew cards made it so incoherent that Chris doesn't try to actually play it just a variant on solitare. Though you could argue much like in 1999 nobody would want to play this crap with him.

I never get tired of telling the story of Chris's ultimate downfall. So it was a few years back when Chris was seemingly ontop a the world. He had null as his manager, or agent more or less. Handling his commissions and finances. People were starting to see Chris as something of a novelty of the internet and he even had a book written about him and his influence on internet culture.


The go fund me null had set up had raised over 4 grand. I shit you not 4 grand and it was meant to pay for Chris's trip to an mlp convention in Seattle. A place on earth that would have seen Chris not as a menace and a degenerate but a poor oppressed transwoman in need of protection.


I checked at I still remember how the gofund me could have bought Chris at best a 4 night stay at the four seasons in a 1000 dollar a night presidential suite...I'm talking the high roller penthouse stay...and still have a grand from that months tugboat to spend at the convention.


And to top it all off, like I mean the cherry on the sundae that could have given Chris that storybook ending he'd been waiting 30 years for. Right on down to the fact our Shrek was about to get his literal and figurative Fiona. A 19 year old girl named Fiona genuinely had feelings for him and saw him as a poor lost little puppy who needed a girl in his life to be better. The "i can fix him," meme with all the irony removed.



Annnd well...you all know the rest don't you? The phone call to Isabella Loretta jankem was leaked, Chris bragged how "the incest first are coming to life." And his life fell apart at the seams.

For people who where not alive at the time you have no idea how hard and fast that hit - Honestly I was to old for it an my sister was towards the middle or tail end of the intended age group for it but EVERY child in that age group went from overnight knowing nothing to being utterly obsessed, it was on TV all the time, the Toys, the Games, the other Merch was everywhere and it was for a few years before it even died down slightly.

I hate terms like "Caught lightning in a bottle" but Nintendo certainly did, and I can see why someone mentally younger than they really are an more simple than their age group like Chris would become a fan and stay one, it's marketing was almost perfect and had a toy or some other item to fit every occasion allowing it to be a 24/7/365 fixture in a childs life.

I can sort of see why some histrionics end up calling fads "satanic" (The usually aren't) but at that young of an age people just get the idea that happiness is focused on products. I wish I had more words to explain this.

Going to try not to power level too much but even back then, Pokemon wasn't some huge thing that every kid was into. I mean I remember a few people into it, maybe more on the electronic side than the actual card side, but it wasn't some huge viral hit, especially with other games. A local comic shop had like one tier of Pokemon cards, but the rest of the store was comics and that Warhammer stuff.

I get that Pokemon was dumbed down for elementary school aged kids to learn, but those kids usually ended up graduating to something like Magic. From what I remember, Chris tried to play Magic but it was a "steep learning curve", like wtf. I mean as much as people think Chris is some sort of card playing wiz, the man's only talent seems to be spending money for card packs.
