Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

I was reading Nabokov's "Despair" and this passage reminded me more than slightly of you-know-whom:

Vladimir Nabokov said:
It was all very ungrammatical and, at the same time, stilted, that mixture being his natural style. ... All its features pleased me: that majestic stream of words, untrammeled by a single punctuation mark; that doltish display of puny curdom coming from so harmless-looking an individual; that implied consent to accept any proposal, however revolting, provided he got the money.

People interested in Chris know a lot more about autism than the average person.
Some of them are even on the spectrum themselves.

Yeah true. Well, I'm not offended really but sometimes it's outright sad that some people who are really ignorant are using terms that they don't know shit about.
I agree, while I know that being on the autistic spectrum doesn't automatically make me like Chris, I have had to deal with the "exceptional individual"(or as I like to call it, the "kid with a helmet") mentality, as have others like me. I've had enough therapy that unless I outright said it, most people wouldn't guess that I have Asperger's Syndrome. Still, there are other autistic lolcows like Chris and I'm sure there are autistic people who would say that they give them a bad name.

I feel that part of the reason so many autistic people are mad at Chris in particular is because he is an autistic LOLcow with perhaps the most notoriety on the internet. His antics have been mirrored, discussed in chat rooms, even broadcasted in the media a few times! While people have become much more open minded about autism over the last twenty years or so, autistic people in my generation still have to deal with lingering traces of the "kid with a helmet mentality" from teachers, classmates, co-workers, employers, and just generally ignorant people. While the public at large doesn't really know about Christian Weston Chandler, when he starts appearing on TV on shows like Failosophy, some of us may be worried that Chris's antics getting on a show like that may be the tip of the iceberg.

Were he to make National News and knowing their handling of so-called "mental illnesses" more or less makes "autism" synonymous with "insane killer", I'd rather not think of the effects coverage of Chris would have. I'd personally be worried that if Chris was now making national news, bigots would now have more fuel for the fire, public ignorance about the subject of autism will spread like wildfire...again, as irrational a fear it is, do you kind of see where I'm going with this thought process? There are people on the autism spectrum who don't want to be scapegoated because of people like Chris. When I see people like Clyde Cash on a website saying that we need to develop screening techniques so we can detect babies with autism and abort them, or people saying that we are a disease that needs to be cured because people seem to attribute Chris as the face of all autistics online...it infuriates me, and that is putting it lightly

Phew, rant over.

This. We know that Borb's relatives weren't communicating with them and for the most part had severed contact with them. Family really only ever severs contact with someone when either that person is so toxic it's detrimental for them to be around other people or they've gone out of their way to prove time and time again their an asshole. Either case can make other family hate that person really damn easily.

I don't think anyone has yet mentioned the fact that Chris voted for Obama at least once...

(Incidentally, that leads into this tangent: did Chris vote for Obama again in 2012?)

I don't see the whole angry autistics over "Chris giving us a bad name." Do you consider yourself some sort of tribe that Chris is presenting in a bad light? Why would you regard him any differently than say a brown haired person looking at Chris, a person with brown hair. Just think he's an idiot who has nothing in common with you and move on. Perhaps some with autism, see a small tiny reflection of their own shortcomings and flaws in Chris and are repulsed by what they see, leading to a vigorous denial of anything in common with him?

I think they're worried that Chris will/has become the common stereotype for an autistic person, and that they'll be treated differently based on that preconception. #NotAllAutistics if you will.

For me, being autistic myself, it's "I hope I never turn into this guy." I know a lot of it is from his home environment, but some of the things he does, I have done as well.

It becomes a fine line. How much of Chris' eccentricities are attributed to autism? Attribute too few and we risk blaming Chris and other autistics for things that are beyond his control. Attribute too many and we run into the #NotAllAutistics problem. "I don't want to be friend with the autistic guy. He must drink his own semen."

I can imagine family members were just uncomfortable around Chris when he became older and had no censor button in him and would tell anybody he saw that he was a virgin with rage. I always just assumed that plus barbs hatefulness made it not worth it.

I have a feeling that most of the animosity is towards Barb. Chris is clearly fairly "special". I would imagine most family members would adopt the default position of tolerance. If Chris were living with them or something it might change, but I would imagine most would be open to the idea of including him in the occasional family picnic or thanksgiving dinner. They might not want to be seen as the guy who told weird cousin Chris he couldn't come to Thanksgiving because he autism. Evil aunt Barbara on the other hand, is much easier to exclude.

A-logs don't really hate Chris. They just use their "hate" for him to make themself feel better. If Chris wasn't around people would probably make fun of A-log since he share quite a few things with Chris.

Also, I somewhat disaprove with people thinking that autism automaticly make someone as retarded as Chris is. I mean I see people saying that people with autism should be exterminated because of Chris. I mean I admit that I've pulled the autism card just because it's easy to make fun of him that way, but then I realize that since I myself has a disability, who am I to judge somebody just by them having autism? Indeed Chris is an asshole but sometimes I have even used the word cripple as a way of hurting people that happens to have disabilities. I try to stop using those kind of words since there are indeed many wonderful people with autism and other disabilites. I'm not trying to white-Knight but sometimes people should think before they speak such as A-logs

Tell us more about your disability.

Do you guys think that Chris has seen Forrest Gump and if he did, what do you think his reaction would be? I mean on one hand Forrest is kind of "slow-in-the-mind" and knowing Chris he would probably see him as a "window to hell" if he was a real person. On the other hand, its about an autistic man who suceeds in life with little to no effort and sheer luck so I'm assuming the premise would be attractive to fatty.

The difference is that Forrest Gump is actually likeable :alog:, and Chris is, well Chris.

I wunder if all this misfortune has put a dent into Fatty's ego.

Does he still think everything is going to turn out all right in the end? Does he believe that his heart sweet is out there waiting to whisk him away?

For the most part, I'd say he's not really thinking that far ahead. Because as long as mommy is around, he doesn't have to worry about the future. That's a job for grown-ups to worry about. But somewhere in the back of his mind, in the place where he stores all the thoughts and memories that give him the prickly-wicklies and show reality for what it is, he knows time is running out. That's why you'll see facebook posts about whining that he needs a new fuckmommy.

Maybe he's waiting for the CWCki to start another fund raiser.
