Honestly I'm pretty sure Chris in general would have been better off raised under liberals.

The Conservative mindset of "He's mah boi, you're not using your weird science on mah boi!" and "Back in mah day we didn't have hand outs or fancy medicines." combined with the Southern Arrogance that problems only come from "Other people's yards", is a big reason Chris turned out this way.

It might have helped a bit but I'm not sure if it would have made much of a difference unless he was sent to a special school since it was the 90s and autism diagnoses was a relatively new thing (For teachers in highschools to deal with anyway) and from the sounds of things Chris got how he is by everyone handling him with kid gloves, nowadays I think teachers more are used to kids with autism and don't let them off with as much.

Chris being brought up by Liberal parents would have arguably been worse. Like others pointed out, autism wasn't understood well back then. Liberal parents would have been skeptical about the kinds of drugs they would have recommended him. The only differences I could think of:

- He'd possibly become a homosexual. After hanging out with all girls his entire life, his parents would think he was gay and push that on him to signal.

- He may have tried to sexualize male figures such as Sonic instead and started cross-dressing as women far earlier.

- When he meets Megan he would probably start heavily getting into Sailor Moon.

- Sonichu would be a drama about which Rosechu is going to go out with Sonichu in the style of a stupid teen girl drama. Mary Lee Walsh is hating the gays, and Reldnahc would be a Christian Fundamentalist.

- Every enemy would be a Captain Planet-esque villain who hates homosexuals, women and minorities.

- Black Sonichu would actually be black, but he'd act like Will Smith and be the "smooth, cool" black guy.

Chris would ostracized by literally everyone because being liberal in Virginia at that time would make him an outcast instead of the "well he's a little weird but he's mostly like us anyway" attitude people seemed to have towards him in those days.

I agree that he might not be on pills, Republicans were pro-meds and Democrats were anti-meds until they went all Southern Strategy 2.0 on... Most of those points are just related to his comic being slightly different... I mean at the very least liberal parents wouldn't go out of their way to hide their "shame child" from the real world.... or would they? Actually I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore.

As for Virignia I've been there and it's definitely more liberal than my home state, which I'm not revealing because powerlevel, and my state isn't exactly Alabama to begin with. I don't think Chris would be flat out rejected for being liberal unless he lived in Texas or some shit.
