Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

We've had this go around before. I reckon he's probably capable of working on a basic level at some bullshit job but I can't imagine that anyone would actually hire him. What would make it harder is that he would probably have to go through two or three jobs before he got the hang of it enough to work. Chris is a brute force learner and doesn't pick shit up fast.

TL;DR I think Chris is capable of having a job on a theoretical level, but in reality couldn't get enough chances to make it work.

The locked thread about the news dash made me want to re read the page on the wiki, and this part to me still doesn't make any sense:

Hslaw Eel Yram, who previously shattered hearts and souls, is handing out presents at Cwcville’s Christmas Tree lighting? Odd, but true, and when interviewed, she had this to say, “After three months in prison, I became rehabilitated and more happy to give joy to those I’ve hurt.” Then we asked her about her oldest victim, Christian Chandler, she said, “I plan to give him a surprise on Christmas Eve, a heart-felt apology.” Well, I guess we’ll see if she will be true to her word on the night before Christmas.[3]

I've never understood why he threw that bit in. It was the issue before he brought up drawing Sonichu #0, so he didn't mean Mary Lee Walsh the comic character. Here it is online. Thankfully nobody read the news dash, so nobody was confused.

Almost like he's autistic. Chris is known to do all sorts of weird things because he's Chris.

Chris's blood feud with Walsh began in 2003, this cheerful newsletter was written in 2004, and Sonichu 0 - which introduced Walsh as a "two-bit" villain - was completed in 2005.

It's like he doesn't know how apologies work or something.

(Also, interesting that this marks the first time he put Walsh in prison, years before the Sonichu 10 retcon.)

Shame there are no paper copies of his newsletter on the wiki. Although he probably just printed out 20 copies of the website he put his gobby-goo on.

Am I the only one who wishes this EBay thing he's doing will get Chris to shape up and turn his life around? Like he'll realize that he enjoys making comissions so he'll take up art lessons and then get himself employed somewhere so he can support his newfound calling AND his ailing mother. Then he'll start shaping up to be a functional member of society and better himself? He'll be the greatest success story the internetz has to offer!

...But this is Chris I'm talking about. So, I think I'll just see myself out.

Who knows? When Barb goes, chances are he'll either break down completely or he actually might have to take charge of his life in order to survive. Granted, the former is way more likely.

I think a lot of people on this forum want to see him make something of his dirty crapped life, but the smart money's on him continuing to fuck up and just barely bumble along. That's how it's always been, after all.

Huh. That brings me to another question: do you think the admins will take the CWCki down if Chris changes for the better? Or will it be kept up as a testament to "its never too late to turn your life around".

This question came to me while I was at church. What the hell?

Has Chris ever mentioned Married with Children as something he has watched or been into?

Nah, I dont think so.
It was too new for Bob and Barb, and too old for Chris. Remember, Bob and Barb had Chris when they were old. So its more like a living with your grandparents scenario .

But I do see the resemblances between Chris's and Peg Bundy's aversion to work.

His biggest risk might be if some weens decided to make a fuss and report him. I still don't think that would be likely to cause problems. but you never know.
I strongly suspect that weens have tried to do that before, because that's how weens roll. What would be funny would be if it had happened so many times that Chris effectively became immune from investigation in a "cry wolf" scenario ("cry Julaaaaay?").

I don't think his ceiling is all that high. If he set his mind to it, he could probably have a job (or a series of jobs) like the Wendy's job for a couple decades. He doesn't have the abilities to do much more than that. Now I do think he would be a lot happier if he did this. His love of brands, small accomplishments and recognition, and occassional casial socialization mean that working at a place like McDonalds for a few years, chatting with his coworkers on breaks, and getting the occassional employee of the week or 2 years of servicce certificate would be very fulfilling to him.

On the other hand, that wouldn't fundamentally change the income bracket he is in. Art lessons aren't going to help. As a fellow terrible artist, I can assure you that it is not knowledge or experience holding me back, it is ability. It's the same with Chris. I suppose it's not impossible that he could take a class at some local community centre as a hobby, but he is never going to have a career as an artist, or anything art related.

And knowing how he doesn't take constructive criticism very well, I don't think he'd make it as an artist. He doesn't have the ability to understand "just take it or leave it" (when it comes to his art, I mean). To him all advice (even really good ones like from "Kacey") is from those dang dirty trolls who misunderstand him and try to ruin his good name *insert stress sigh here*.

I guess I'm hoping this hobby of his will somehow push him to be a better person. Kind of like how after turning 22, I realized that I wasn't going to be the next greatest mangaka evar and that I just really like writing as a hobby. The upside of that realization of mine is that I realized that what I really wanted to focus on was teaching [my actual profession, which I originally just took so I could support my writing/try to be a famous fiction writer someday]. I'm pretty happy where I am now and I still write when I have the time. I just really wish that the same kind of positive thing would happen to Chris. If not for him, then for Barb's sake.

I think the standard for work related income is a 50% clawback. So if Chris gets $1200 a month of SSI, and earns $1500 from "work", his payment should be reduced by around $750 to $450 for that month. That is an approximation, usually the first bit of income is not clawed back, so he might get to keep more than that.

eBay sales are rarely reported as income. In general, it is not obvious that they are income. If you sell a few old DVD's you don't want anymore, that is not income. On the other hand, if you buy DVD's cheaply in bulk and sell them for a mark-up it is. If you sell something you make, it is income. As people have said, this is not something bureaucracies want to wade into, so it almsot certainly won't cause Chris any problems.

Let him enjoy his ebay money. Interest in his ebay 'art' is due to peak soon, and he'll be right back to where he started. Reporting his ebay income is just petty, not to mention pointless.

It would be nice though if he put some of his proceeds aside to cover future living expenses. Winter is coming. I don't know how bad in gets in Ruchersville, but here it means a significant increase in living expenses due to heating costs. I usually try to pay for my heating oil in advance. It's always a good idea to have a little money put away to cover unexpected expenses, such as car repair, as well.

It would be great if he did, but I don't think he will, for three reasons.

1). Saving requires a lot of planning and willpower.
2) I don't think he sees his eBay business as about to dry up. I tend to think he can go to the well a couple more times with new produts, but I am sure he is much more optimistic than me. He probably sees it as an extra $15-$20K for life.
3) There are lots of pressing expenses now. He has all kinds of debts/bills. If he has some extra cash and is in a reponsible mood, he will pay some of that debt, not save it. Which is not an entirely dumb move.

I just noticed Anna hasn't commented on hits posts in a while, any ideas on what happened?
She's probably run out of excuses for him. Either that or Mormons have a strict "no male lesbians" policy.
