The thing about CAD is I've worked with some SUPER stupid fucking idiots for doing utility/fiber work in CAD, it's easy as FUCK. He probably would have liked doing it at a utility contractor, you just trace roads and utilities all day.
He could have gotten a job doing that for $20+ an hour and it would have been the easiest thing in the world.
What a fucking retard.
The thing is: Bob kinda screwed the pooch and boomered it up.
For most of Bob’s career they had something called drafters. You handed them a raw sketch of some engineering plans or whatever, and they’d get their blue paper and pencils and pens and drew it all nicely, proper and proportionally.
(Yes, I know, I know! But work with me here guys. Let’s pretend that Chris had even the slightest skill at drawing proportionally!)
This was the kind of work Bob imagined his tard son would do. After all: He loved to draw, right?
There was only one small problem... By the time that Chris was attending PVCC, the whole drafting job was going the way of the typewriter repair business.
Bob’s dreams about his “special” boy finding a job he loved were pretty much dead: It was all CAD from then on, and well... Chris may be able to draw a straight line with a pencil and a ruler, but CAD material he is not. (Fuck, we’ve all seen that mall that was his big achievement!)
Bob basically boomered Chris at a crucial time when he was still like 10-20% redeemable.
If I remember correctly, Bob was trying to convince his engineering friends from work to get Chris a job. That didn't happen because I assume of Chris' fuckery (love quest). So I think, Bob thought that Chris wouldn't amount to much and put him on the tugboat.
Now that you say this, it seems like a very cushy gig. I think when Bob put Chris for SSDI, it made him lazy. With that job, Chris would have ignored the trolls. But he went back to business as usual. Even if he was working at that job, Chris would've still kept his older habits like creeping on women.
Bob boomered it up for Chris when it came to finding something for him to do after high school which was a crucial time.
Bob should of course have realized after PVCC, that Chris’s only chance at being self sufficient was to find some tard level job in fast food and retail. Unfortunately he was too ambitious early on.
And after all of Chris’s problems at PVCC, taking five years to take a two year degree, run ins with the law and administration, etc. Bob was too tired, noped the fuck out and figured SSDI would be his lifeboat.
Instead he should of course have pushed on, MADE Chris take different jobs and even threaten him with kicking him out of the house and getting him his own place if he didn’t put in an effort.
Alas, Bob was tired and disillusioned. And fuck, who can blame him. He went above and beyond for his retard son as it was. Nobody can blame a 70+ year old for taking a deep stress sigh and go: “Well, SSI it is!” And hope for some peace and quiet in his sunset years.
