Personally, I think that they're misunderstanding the point. I use pronouns based upon appearance when first meeting someone not out of ignorance, but out of a desire to sort out the loonies. If upon being called "sir", someone chimps the fuck out, then I know that person isn't someone whose company is likely to be terribly pleasant. If they respond with something like "actually, I prefer feminine pronouns, if you would", then I know that they're a grown ass adult who's probably a lovely person. Using this method, I can keep Tumblr people out of my life. Problematic, right?

While America has done some very fucked up things and is very hypocritical about it, every other country has also done the same and also has a very hypocritical attitude about it as well. Nothing gets me rolling my eyes faster on Tumblr than some teenager who has 2edgy4u opinions about the U.S while worshiping another country, usually also located in the western world, while completely ignoring the fucked up shit that particular country has done as well.

Grass is always greener dude. We have exactly the same thing here in the UK, tons of Poles and Lithuanians come here seeking a better life, then bitch about how England is shitty and the weather is bad and the pay is awful. All we get is "One day I go to America where I make bags of money and get all the American pussy!" This is pretty much what they think about England when they're back home. Generally the ones that DO go to America then repeat verbatim the same thing about Australia. Money and Pussy is just on the other end of the next cheap night-flight.
