One of these things is not like the others

And this almost certainly white person didn't admit what they really love about Portland which is none of those pesky negroes because it's so overwhelmingly white! And they hate Florida, obviously because it's full of retired Jews from New York.

Something makes me think this didn't happen. Most of the time because people are usually too afraid to confront someone that way randomly like that and usually stew over it and do nothing.

I took the liberty of pasting each writer's username at the top of their post. I hate having to scroll back to see whose post I'm reading.

Y'know, if you changed the subject to Islamic religion the same thing could apply here.

The person whose tweet was screen capped has been brought up multiple times in the social justice warriors thread and the general consensus seems to be that it's an extremely dedicated troll and/or delusional koreaboo. I rate it r/thathappened out of ten

I mean, I don't really know the media they're referring to but they have a point about this specific genre of movie... it's not that they're saying that marginalized people can't be antagonists, it's that the way in which they are marginalized shouldn't be.. for lack of a better term weaponized in a way that shows that oh no, look, minorities actually are dangerous to the "normal" / non-minority people! etc.

Like, to take their example of X-Men: Depending on the decade in comics, the X-Men are obviously and extremely openly used to represent people of color and/or gay people and are shown to be marginalized in the same way, people in-universe use the same way of talking about them as real-world people do about people of color and/or gay people, the mutants often borrow the language of anti-racist/anti-homophobic activism to defend themselves and protest for their rights, etc. It's pretty much the most obvious comparison in the world. But mutants in the X-Men universe are actually dangerous - they have superpowers that can and often do kill people, often by accident, including sometimes potentially world-ending powers. So to have them portrayed as being the same as gay people or people of color, and their oppression as somehow the same, lends to the idea that being gay or not being white somehow makes a person dangerous. This contributes to racist and homophobic violence by confirming the way bigots think about gay people and people of color as dangerous to the status quo / to white people / to straight people.

They do a really bad job explaining why this is a problem (I'm guessing because Tumblr is an echo chamber so they can easily assume you're aware of this kind of problem in media), but it is genuinely a common media criticism that makes sense. It's a lazy shortcut that is most often taken by white, straight male writers who don't understand what's wrong with the parallels they're making and it does rightly make marginalized people uncomfortable.

And I'm gonna quit now while I'm ahead but I couldn't resist a comment since I love media criticism.

In the movie they're talking about, the "oppressed group" is literally trying to holocaust humans. That's it, that's the plot. I don't know how they watched it and saw them as "oppressed," that's like saying that the aliens in They Live are oppressed.

I mean, it really depends. It sounds like from what I can tell, the "bad guys" trying to do those things are explicitly Jewish-coded? If that's true, I can definitely see why people would have a problem with it, since it would basically be saying "look those Jewish people you hate are actually evil murderers who want to enact a new Holocaust on all non-Jewish people!" through coding and narrative cues, which is obviously anti-Semitic and terrible and plays upon a couple of centuries of anti-Semitic stereotypes of Jewish people as evil baby-eating murderers and whatnot.

No, they're not. They're not coded for any racial group, they are standard anime flame monsters with an androgynous hot anime bishounen mascot. They don't celebrate Hannakuh, they don't have kosher foods, they don't have circumcision, no rabbis, they aren't happy merchants, there is positively no Jewish coding. From what we see of the culture, they're standard anime villain monsters.

Edit: the movie goes deeper into this and there's standard Trigger suberversions, but there is no reference to or imagery of jews. Anyone who says that there is needs to go outside and get laid.

Those aren't the only ways you can make a character Jewish-coded, but I'll take your word for it and thanks for the info! I don't watch anime (anymore... brb hiding my past shame), so I'll never know for myself.

Is it the sun comment or the trump thing? Sure, it's most likely the trump thing, but the fact this person said that we don't need sun 90% of the time and that it should die in a ditch forever is more concerning than the trump sign comment.

Lol, that's Bogleech, he's lily-white, "weird" and being on tumblr has rotten his poor brain to the point of "shoving politics into randomest stuff, period".
I hope he gets better someday.

I thought bogleech was a pedophile people refused to accept was a pedophile. Although I think that could be said about a fair amount of Tumblr-famous people...

This would be the first time I've ever heard such a thing.

He seems to be way more into bugs than children.
