late, I know, but fwiw, this is entirely wrong. there is staggeringly little regulation - genuinely, shocking - children die because of lax homeschool regulations all the time, and the rest of the time it can often provide cover for horrendous abuse (one of many many cases here). the post is right that regulations will not harm reasonable homeschooling families. PL, but this is directly relevant to my work and personal life both, and trust me, a little regulation will save children's lives. in many states, a parent can withdraw their child with no follow-up, warning, or documentation, and nobody will ever check on that kid again. I've seen firsthand how easily these lax laws can lead to horrific abuse, often of the very most vulnerable children.
