Yesterday there was a recital at my school featuring the students of the "improv ensemble" class. A Japanese classmate played a few Japanese folk songs with the assistance of a white, Italian guitarist. The Greek professor played a Greek folk song with the assistance of a white flute player and a white Jewish drummer. A Korean classmate who has immigrated from South Korea sang two Korean folk songs
while dressed in traditional Korean clothing and with the assistance of the aforementioned white Jewish drummer, who was also wearing Korean clothing. And yet that drummer would have been immediately pointed at by everyone as being cultural appropriating the Korean clothing, even though it was almost definitely the Korean lady's idea to have both of them wear Korean clothing! Like, I just don't get how such a wonderful mix of cultures brought to us by natives of those countries can be so disliked because "cultural appropriation" and what have you.
