What's also amusing is that those pictures of Mark came from a challenge he did where he played a game with one hand and put on makeup with the other. Not once during the video did he make any statements that could (by a person with more than two brain cells to rub together) be skewed as transmisogynist in any way, shape, or form. And I was going into that video worried he would crack a shitty joke, and he didn't at all.

Circles on Tumblr have a massive throbbing hate boner for Markiplier as of late, in spite of him being pretty much one of the best YouTubers out there (imo, of course - the guy is really sweet though seriously). So they just keep reaching and reaching until they can get their mitts on something that they can try to drag him with. First it was accusing him of being ableist because he uses words that Tumblr doesn't like (stupid, dumb, idiot, etc). After that came the whole twisted words thing of when Tumblr was trying to make him out as a woman beater (even though, as someone else said, he clearly said don't hit anyone). I think someone also mentioned the whole Snapchat controversy a while ago, but Tumblr basically tried to paint him as a rapist then. Seeing as that didn't work, now they're going for transmisogyinist.

They are all almost exclusively hangover roles originally held by eunuchs (though rarely now). They are not nearly as glamorous or exotic as is often made out and are far more tolerated than they are accepted.

there has never been a society in human history that had a gender concept that was any more removed from the binary than m/f/eunuch and these were all very much based on physical traits. Which makes sense: Testosterone and oestrogen do effect behaviour and how we think and before hormones were available the only way to alter someone's chemistry radically was castration. So if you wanted less aggressive and assertive men you cut off their balls. There was a good reason eunuchs were in admin roles from rome to china. Obviously some eunuchs did become successful generals but they were largely the exception. The naturally occuring cases of nb are far too small a percentage of the population to ever have had an impact on the societal or cultural norms or structures.

Thats not to say matriarchal rather than patriarchal societies didnt exist- they did but that's a whole different kettle of fish.

This isn't in any way meant as a political point just a historical point of interest.

EDIT: in terms of gender roles one could argue that many of these societies had 5- boys, girls, men, women, eunuchs but modern practice in ss is not to treat children and adults as having separate gender roles but rather just reduced versions of the adult role. I'm not sure I agree that this is correct but my degree isn't in gender studies so what do I know

From what I remember from a discussion with an anthropologist friend, some societies consider children one gender until they hit puberty, then the elderly past childbearing age are another. Hell, up until very recently in the west it was customary to dress children up to the age of four in what would now be considered very feminine clothing (kids basically wore a dress until they were potty trained, because diapers). You can see remnants of this in illustrations from children's books of the time. I believe Christopher Robin actually wears what appears to be a dress in some of the Pooh books, if I recall.

I don't know where else to post this, but I just had a random Tumblr-related thought.

In many foreign languages that I know of, there are only like two genders (though German has a neutral gender for some reason): male and female. That means even the non-human objects are classified as male or female. You want to talk about a chair in Spanish? That chair is female. How about the sun in Arabic? The sun will be male. I wonder how much of a hissy-fit Tumblrinas would have if they couldn't use their neopronouns if they had to communicate in another language? Check your Anglophone privilege!

Anyone who knows how foie gras is made (and isn't benefiting from its production) will tell you it is one of the most inhumane foods on the market. A basic Google search of "foie gras" shows how much controversy is behind it.
"Nobody is ever gonna sign a petition in nyc to take it off the menu?" The Animal Legal Defense Fund is trying to get foie gras distribution banned for ALL of New York.
Why not point out how most meat production is objectively more cruel than balut production? That'd be a decent argument. But I guess you couldn't pin all the blame on the big bad whitey, then.

Yeah that post came across my dash too and I had to roll my eyes at it. From an ethics standpoint foie gras is still worse than balut, in my opinion. But all the same, pretending that the uproar surrounding foie gras didn't happen is pretty damn dumb.

Foie gras production is vastly more inherently cruel than balut, which is barely more cruel than normal egg production. They are allowing their feelings that something is gross to substitute for moral judgment.

Not saying that they're being hypocritical for protesting both things, but that of the two, you could pick a lot better things to protest than balut.

It's worse because Mark is actually a really nice guy and he's very reasonable and people can just message him about it and he will respect their opinions and will apologize/change his behavior if he feels like he should. But they're only trying to label him like xkit guy so that they can defame him.

It was the same with Super Best Friends Play after they got some people who asked them politely to tone down on calling stuff 'Retarded' (which they did because the people messaged them privately and treated them like human beings instead of crying about it on Twitter/Tumblr, Twittlr.)

I remember when Matt went to a convention and did this skit where he was pretending to creep on some famous cosplayer and she caught him while he awkwardly tried to flee. All of this was pre-planned, pretend and agreed on by all parties involved but Tumblr flipped its collective shit.

While I know a lot of early Star Trek fandom had a lot of women (a woman organized the very first Star Trek convention, even!), I'm not so sure the show was solely regarded as housewife fare. Then again I wasn't around.

The bit about the Beatles strikes me, though. The Beatles became rock legends when they moved away from their pop sound and moved to a more mature sound that wasn't afraid to experiment. They weren't rock legends for "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." They were rock legends for The White Album, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road.

Again this is something that is written about him regularly but its not entirely true. Lennon did slap his first wife Cynthia across the face once when they were teenagers. He spent many months apologizing until she took him back and it never happened again. He never hit Yoko his second wife either or any of his other many girlfriends, though there was apparently one occasion where while intoxicated by drugs he attack May Pang by grabbing her throat. However other than these two incidents there are no records from any of his girlfriends of him being violent and both of wives hate the idea of him being called a wife beater. The myth of Lennon repeteadly beating his wives comes from the book written many years after Lennons death written by Albert Goldman. It was pure fabrication and all who knew Lennon renounced it including Cynthia Lennon, Yoko and Paul McCartney. The book among other things claimed that Lennon had beaten Yoko so badly he had given her a miscarriage. It is complete fabrication. Cynthia has said she finds it offensive not just for Lennons sake but for her own when people say Lennon beat his wife as she would never have stayed with him if he had beaten her. After the one time he slapped her she left him for months until he convinced her he had changed and then it never happened again.
