Unless the actor is playing a transwoman and literally saying "I DESERVE TO BE RAPED AND MURDERED, I AM INHUMAN SCUM, PLEASE BEAT MY FACE IN WITH A BAT," I don't understand this argument.
Wouldn't "it'd be nice to see a transwoman play a transwoman character in a movie" be a more rational response?
I'd say so, but people seem to be under the illusion that the whole point of acting isn't playing a character that you're not. It'd be the same argument if, say, a straight woman was playing a lesbian.
