The fear rose in my throat as the mugger slashed me in the arm and snatched my wallet. Noticing my trouble, a person ran over; "YOU STOP THAT!" he yelled. The mugger began lowering his knife. "Not you," my supposed savior laughed. He pointed to me, "You! Stop shaking! Can't you see this mugger is a POC? Check your privilege!"

Slightly unpopular opinion; I don't see what's wrong with Americans (Or Australians and Canadians. Really any nation that was a former colony settler state) celebrating their heritage. Yeah some do it for special snowflake points. But again, I don't see why some people get so worked up over some asshole being so proud for being "Irish" on St. Patrick's Day. Are they "truly" Irish? Well, probably not. But again, it doesn't usually really affect the people who tend to be bitching about it.

It's less getting worked up about it than it's rolling eyes at Americans being :autism: and claiming they're things they barely relate to, culturally speaking

Also, most Americans have been taught throughout our lives that we don't have a culture, an identity, or anything unique about us. We're just one giant melting pot and everything we are is plagiarized/appropriated from other cultures, which are necessarily better.

We're also taught that our entire history, with a few noble exceptions, is made up of evil, hateful people who oppressed others, stole things, and were evilly evil.

Who's going to celebrate that? So instead, you celebrate your ancestry--in whatever halfassed, stereotypical way the history "experts" see fit to represent them.
