Call it an attempt to rewrite things. By making Gamergate out to be the pre-alt-Right movement, it gives those who opposed it some validation, as they were standing against a threat to various groups instead of fighting against a bunch of random people on the internet. Suddenly not losers, but good and righteous people fighting against tyranny.

Gamergaters were against SJWs. Alt-righters are against SJWs. Gamergaters used 4chan and 8chan. Alt-righters use 4chan and 8chan.

Never mind that there are gators that aren't right-wing, or that there are alt-right members that don't play video games. There's just enough overlap there to justify them equating the two, as far as they're concerned.

Gamergate was the worst thing to happen on the internet? Not because REEE SEXISM or REEE DONT TAKE AWAY MUH BOUNCY ANIME BOOBS, but because it broke the internet and now everything is polarized as fuck in fandoms of anything. Everyone is REEEEEing about everything, even the edgelords.

One of the main characters in The Babysitters Club books was a type 1 diabetic. Those books were written in the 90's. Those books were inclusive as hell, with girls of different races and family structures, and it was all treated like it was pretty normal.

Kind of amazed Tumblr never seems to talk about them.

Have you ever seen that video of the baby throwing a tantrum while following his parents around?
Tumblr's kinda like that, but in reverse.
They throw a huge tantrum over characters not being gay or black or trans or disabled. They demand more variety in characters so they can see themselves in these fictional worlds. So content creators approach them with characters that are black, gay, disabled, &/or transgender written just for them while others offer existing works with black, gay, disabled, &/or transgender characters that Tumblr would probably like.
But instead of being happy and embracing these characters and their stories, Tumblr gets up off the floor, walks a few feet away, and then throws itself back on the ground kicking and screaming about how underrepresented they are.
