Random Tumblr posts

Ok, so I'm still new-ish to the whole tumblr mentality and community and I have a quick question. I've seen this crop up quite a few times in people's "don't follow me if..." Lists, most recently in one of @Lunete's caps.

"Don't follow me if you know me Irl. "

Any clue as to the logic behind this? It's fairly common, it seems, and my first thought was because they'd be too embarrassed for their real friends and family to see the way they act online... But that would mean that these tumblrinas have some sense and shame. That certainly can't be the case, so anyone able to explain this?
It's because people who know them outside the Internet can tell when they're bullshitting, and bullshitting is a big part of Tumblr. It's easy to lie about being a mixed-race lithromantic gray-pansexual demiboy system who has 5 different personality disorders and lives beneath the poverty line to random internet strangers. But it's a lot harder to convince people who know for a fact that you are a straight upper middle class suburban white girl with zero mental health problems (or at least nothing as extreme as they claim to have). They might take you to task for it, or worse, post a call out on Tumblr and open the floodgates of harassment from other liars who haven't been caught yet.
I think Tumblrites do feel some shame, but it's buried under the boldness that internet anonymity brings out in people and their desire to fit in on Tumblr. It's easy to fib when no one but you knows the truth, and on Tumblr being a galaxygender cat who is also fifty different fictional characters and who loses all coherence if someone doesn't properly tag pictures of blueberry muffins is normal. Take away that anonymity and groupthink, and they're forced to realize how stupidly they've been behaving.

i said that mmd hate blogs could fit in the narrative of callout blogs (and that the mmd community is autism incarnate). but what is better than a mmd hate blog with behind it tumblrinas?

It's almost like you can't stop your friends hanging out with other people.

To be a bit fair, I can understand being a little miffed your friend still hangs out with people who really did hurt you beyond something stupid and superficial. You'd think that because they're your friend their opinion of the other person might change a bit because they fucked you over, but it'd be wrong to force them to not hang with that person. You can't force anyone to do anything and thinking otherwise is pretty dumb.

Especially considering Tumblr, they probably just committed some microaggression, like calling them "he" when they are clearly shampoo-gender, and are now demanding all their friends sever ties with said person.

What is it with Tumblr getting so pissy about memes? The whole point of them is that they aren't serious business, but every single new one earns detractors for being problematic in some way.

TR-8R is the stormtrooper who confronts Finn yelling "traitor" and has become a minor meme. It's pretty obvious to me that Phasma was an attempt by the film makers to repeat the cult success of Boba Fett: cool looking but ultimately does nothing. The fact she's a captain doesn't automatically make her a strong female character or whatever. It's actually pretty ironic how much Phasma was talked up in press conferences and such considering how minor her role in the actual film is.

And I thought the SU fandom was obnoxious...

Mettaton does transform, but he's still male.

All female characters must be protected, no matter how overhyped or shitty!!

From what I understand, slowbeef, Diabetus, and Chip tend to stay away from SJ subjects and stick to joking on their Twitter (unlike DJB, who I recall once tweeting "FUCK YOU" to a person who I believe supported the Ferguson decision); however, this was apparently the exception:

As for on-topic stuff, the adult privilege tag just keeps on giving:

To be fair, posting a video of your kid flipping out for the whole internet to see just to shame them does kinda make you a shit parent.

True, but I certainly wouldn't call it "adult privilege". Particularly when Tumblr users willingly post videos of themselves flipping out.

And besides, it's probably for the best that 12 year olds don't post on Tumblr.

Anyway,
