The concept gets kicked around and rebranded sometimes in aromantic/asexual circles but most examples I can think of are scattered, old, and mocked by, you know, actual LGB people. At least, I can't think of any major championing efforts.
God is dead, and we killed him.

How long before there's a sexuality for being 'in love' with fictional characters?

If there isn't one already.

Please tell me there isn't one already.

There is. It's an "asexual spectrum" identity called 'fictosexual'. There's also autochrorissexual which means you're a yaoifantard but never want to have sex with real people.

TL;DR
"Pairing A is horrible and I'll give you 7 valid reasons why... but I still ship it because I'm a moron. Pairing B sucks, too, but I guess it gets more flak because SW is super-popular and the pairing is hetero. I don't have much of a problem with it, though."

wow wow wow

Actually I think that's a valid point, and I have an answer to their question: it's because Reylo has a girl in it.

The most sadistic, abusive m/m ships might be side-eyed by Tumblr at large, but they're generally ignored or swept under the rug. As soon as you throw a girl into the mix? You're an absolute fucking monster and you deserve to get cancer and die, you horrible excuse for a human being!

Nothing bad should happen to women ever but you have full license to fuck with men however you please.

I'm with Cat on this one. Tumblr romanticizes characters like Hannibal and Eddie Gluskin. Them being serial killers would make you think tumblrinas would be put off of it, but nope- they've got a huge fan following and loads of fanart. Both get shipped with the characters they terrorize. Meanwhile, ships like Reylo are called things like abusive. Though it's for other reasons, it's mostly because Reylo is a straight paring.

The OP also states they like the ship, but at the same time they acknowledge how bad it is. Honestly, I find myself agreeing with that post rather than refuting it.

So this piece of art based on the disney adaptation of Tarzan:

Has caused quite the shitstorm.

Holy moly, I sought it out just so I could take a peek through the notes.

While there is still a ton of praise for the artworks, the amount of "Damned if ya do..." is astounding.

YEARS ago I remember a massive outcry and demand for artists, young and old alike, to get better at drawing more diverse characters, otherwise they're racist. A lot of young artists especially took this to heart because young and impressionable.

Nowadays, I see more diversity than ever before and a lot of young artist trying their best at new things in terms of race and body types. You would think that's a good thing, but it's never enough. Somewhere, someone manages to fuck up and piss off the wrong people over something intended to be completely innocent.

I'm counting the days before artists go back to not drawing diverse characters at all just because it's safer to not bother.

this peppersupreme chick seems worthy for a thread.
very worthy.
If you want you can try to do more research on her, I have no nerves to investigate her blog deeper. I remember there was also a post how german My little Pony rip-offs are progressive, but couldn't find it.
Instead...

I know it's easier to just hotlink to posts directly, but capping or archiving (archive.is) is usually a better option since if the posts get deleted we won't be able to see them :(

Holy moly, I sought it out just so I could take a peek through the notes.
Most of the time I save posts for posterity as well as capping them so if you ever want to find something I post, just ask.

"Maybe listen to the people trying to make a point and apologize"

Oh yeah because that worked out so well for Zamii didn't it?
At this point, being an artist for anything with more than ten fans on Tumblr is about as safe as picking your nose with a lightsaber.

Intersex, apparently

The whole alphabet soup there is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Tranŝexual, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Pansexual, Demisexual
