...Now that I think about it, that's a constant thing with Tumblr's overall mentality, having other people do their work for them and a baffling sense of entitlement. Instead of making their terrible comics and books and what have you, they bitch at writers to create stuff tailored specifically for them. Instead of getting a job, they beg for other peoples' money as if they deserve it.

The same thing happened when the same part of the fandom drove that fan artist to attempt suicide. The creators of the show flat out stated it was wrong to bully someone for drawing fanart and they didn't care what kind of art was drawn(it was slightly skinny Rose and not-blatently-black Garnet, as I recall). tumblr had a bitchfit, claiming that the show's creators supported pedophellia and were racist fat-shamers.

It's just a kids show. It doesn't even have all this progressive, deep, lesbian, coded content they're talking about. It's like looking at The Super Mario Brothers cartoon as a critical and important statement on society and needed representation for smol gay italians and princessgender coded individuals. It doesn't surprise me to hear they did a "don't fight fire with fire" episode given the age group this is aimed at. That's sort of a staple theme and lesson in children's programming and it's obviously one that tumblr missed.
