TBH tho those "tumblr school/university" posts were often made during 2012, when social justice wasn't that big a thing on tumblr (it spread in 2013 and then became mainstream in 2014), and people often spent more time making anti-bullying posts and in general being quirky fandom dorks. Dumb, but not annoying.

I was around when tumblr was a fun and peaceful place. I think what murdered it was the change in how searches index posts. There's no way to post anything privately now without password-locking your blog now (which means shadow banning yourself), apart from censoring buzzwords so the search engine doesn't pick them up.

Before posts would only appear in tags if they were actually tagged, which was great and how it should be. I don't know what tumblr staff were thinking when they changed this.

I've seen a lot of people on tumblr screaming not to ship D.Va with anyone because she's ""underage!!!!!!"" when in reality she's 19 years old therefore legal in technically every country on Earth? Girl can get married without her parents permission, and yet they're throwing a fit over shipping her with characters more than a couple years older than her (Lucio, Tracer, Sombra, etc).

There was always drama. Tumblr was more than happy to participate in antagonizing Jessi Slaughter back in 2011. It was never peaceful, there were always drama queens, but it was a lot more fun back before the ess-jay-dubbayoos went rampant. But I remember seeing a few of them as far back as 2010.

I wonder, when Blizzard decided to make an online FPS, they knew they'd spark THIS much drama and internet crying. It's like these people need something to be angry about to live. Yep, there was always drama. I was speaking in relative terms. It may have always had its share of crybabies but it has gotten so much worse that by comparison, it was relatively chill back then. Though I think the only reason was because f the aforementioned tag feature change.

Early Tumblr was weird. I started in 2011, and there was still gender and feminist discourse from the get-go, at least in my corner, but it was mainly from art blogs. But no one was worried about offending people, and you weren't lynched for liking problematic things.

Oddly enough, I was in the Penny Arcade fandom at the time, which had about 10 people in it, and it devolved into PC genderfucks before the rest of Tumblr did.
