This one is enthralling to me. Read it aloud. Now, swap out "ME" with "me" and read it aloud again. It is amazing how that sentence, if it had been written without that capitalization, sounds like a reasonable sentence. Capitalize the me and you get a person who has a large amount of self-regard. "How could THEY confront ME on this matter?"
Yet, at the same time this person says that their mixed-race acquaintance "holds more authority over them" . They want to be right, but they can't, because someone who is a higher class of citizen than them told them they aren't right. They can't confront the person and tell them that they're wrong, because the person is a higher class of person; they don't have the authority. But at the same time, how dare they tell ME that I am the wrong one?!
