I wish mainstream comics would introduce a trans character. But not like… Batgirl’s fucking roommate. I don’t want a side character. I don’t want someone that’s entirely unimportant. I want a real character. A main character.
I want fucking Batman to come out and say, “I’m a woman. From this day on I want all of you to call me Theresa. If you don’t, I know where you live, and what all of your weaknesses are. And thank you Diana for keeping this a secret for the past six months.”
If they did that, I swear I’d go back to reading mainstream comics, no matter how shitty the writing may be otherwise. I’d support the shit out of something like this. I’d buy all their dumb merchandise and action figures and premium edition hardcover re-releases.
But sadly, there’s no chance of that happening within the foreseeable future. Marvel and DC would NEVER take a risk this big (especially DC), because they’re too busy making the same bland, sexist, cissexist comics over and over again (especially DC). And can you imagine how angry the fanboys would be? Hell, I’m not going to be surprised if people get angry just from reading this post.

Tribal membership and ethnicity aren't exactly the same thing. I have relatives who were born off-rez and aren't on the books, but are culturally Indian asks almost full-blooded (not Fauxcohontases.) People become whatever race they are by being born into it, but being registered as a tribe member and being part of the COMMUNITY are two different things. Additionally, there are people in many tribes who aren't even *ethnically* Indians, since we took in so many escaped slaves and the like. You have a point, but it's not as clear-cut as that. Some tribes have intermarried so much that they don't even *look* Indian anymore- it's not my group and I'm not sure if he's still in power, but one of the very recent Cherokee chiefs was white-passing. (Tumblr has ruined me- I saw his photo in his bio wearing the ceremonial warbonnet and the first thing that occurred to me was that SJWs would tear the CHIEF a new one for wearing it. -__-; ) Tl;dr it's a little bit complicated, and the Tumblrtard is probably trying to stop white SJWs from tormenting and harassing the white-passing natives. I mean, it constituted a huge “discovery” in the psych world when research showed that rampant depression and increased risk of suicide in trans people was tied to how badly we are isolated and alienated, and that conclusion would likely never have been reached without transness first being slowly de-pathologized, and thus not treated as just being something that is conveniently co-morbid with debilitating mental illness.
Cis people are deeply invested in any narrative that removes their involvement in our suffering and thus places the onus of change on us, demanding we subject ourselves to a psychiatric community that first attempts to obliterate our transness before it even considers helping facilitate it.
This misdirection of responsibility needs to be called out for what it is, an act of violence against trans people at the hands of cis people, and whether its through media, or medical discourse, or casual cissexism, it needs to fucking stop, and y’all cis folk need to hold yourselves accountable for how you perpetuate it.
