For those of you that haven't seen the trailer for disneys newest film let me link it here
NS9s
Anyways, to me it feels like any other disney film with the tiniest, hardest to notice speck of edge. But since it features a predominantly poc cast it would be a hate crime if the film made less than a billion dollars. It does look kinda cool, can't wait to pirate it.

I mean it's not that films animated like this are bad, but it was better when this was "Pixar style" and Disney proper made cartoons in their old style. They were even successfully hybridizing that style with rendered shit when necessary for effect.

Now everything just looks like Toy Story.

Disney is on fire and bleeding out millions. the only thing keeping themalive are the shit eating CONSOOMERS that put corporate products first, and everything else incluiding politics, themselves, their families and human rights second, here's a picture of one of those soyboys for reference.

The main character looks like if Korra found herself in the world of Nausicaä, and it's just as distracting as the annoying "ALOO-WOO-WOO" in the soundtrack. Also bets on if this'll be the last Disney project Kelly Marie Tran will be in.

But since it features a predominantly poc cast it would be a hate crime if the film made less than a billion dollars.
Asians aren't POC, remember?

The producer's trying to use Moana as clout, too. Her résumé is otherwise nothing to sneeze at since she used to work for Pixar and was the producer of some of their shorts.

What is even the cast? All the characters are the same tone of black with somewhat asian features (but it'll be called diverse just because there isn't any whites in it). You'd think then it will be Indian but nothing in the trailer is even somewhat Indian. Actually there is no real culture in the film, it's a literal generic mystic asian Mutt movie. Plus, the character's name is Ray with an added letter, as if Disney isn't able to let go of its shitty mary sue.

Here is an actually good Indian animation that I guarantee is not something Disney owns:

Tacky color-scheme, but the design itself isn't bad. Definitely is an aquatic dragon, though you'd think it'd have more greens to be able to, you know, blend in the water.
Elsa dragon, honestly. But yeah the environment is impressively realistic lush and green only to have this garishly colored dragon be the main focus. Its gonna be the same visual weirdness as the Good Dinosaur.

At first I thought this was more pandering to China based on the title. But after seeing the trailer I can't help but wonder if Disney stole the MC from Nickelodeon since her look in two-thirds of the trailer reminds me of Korra.

Does the animation look off to anyone else? I can't put my finger on it but it looks oddly cheaper than the animation they used for stuff like Moana, the Frozen movies, and Tangled. It's not bad, not by a long shot, but it doesn't look like Disney.

EDIT: The style almost reminds me of Light Chaser Animation. They're a Chinese CG animation studio (that have done some pretty decent movies ngl) and for whatever reason when I watch the trailer I can't help but be reminded of their movies. Weird.

Avatar the Last Airbender called, they said that Lara Croft called them demanding child support for this bastard of a movie.

It doesn't look /bad/ just like deepfake blending Katara and Rey together wouldn't look bad. But it looks generic af, without a hint of original creative voice.

And I'm guessing that Disney is hoping to turn this into a spinoff animated series as well as multiple movies/ video games/ toys/ books/ apple juice packets. The world looks 'complex' (multiple color coded peoples and mcguffins) enough to support a cartoon.

Trailer didn't really do much for me. Hopefully this isn't a third meh film in a row after Ralph was poorly received and Frozen II was mixed. Still haven't seen the latter honestly and I outright skipped the former.
