Raya and the last dragon - A half decent trailer for most likely a mediocre film that will still get a billion dollars

Good find! But this part raises some eyebrows:

Is this sarcasm? It can't not be sarcasm. A dragon-worshipping land naming their tribes after dragon parts (not even translated to another language to make it sound unique) sounds lazy as shit. Avatar had the same lazy naming for their lands but at least wasn't on the nose about what kind of people lived there. "Fang is where evil shitheads lived and Heart is where visionary optimists live", that broad painbrushing was begging for enemy infiltration.
He says this:
I feel like a god-damned four-year-old typing out these proper nouns.
So yeah, it's sarcasm.

Imagine... my shock.

Heart Land
Fang Land
Spine Land
Tail Land
Talon Land
Just throwing in "land" at the end of each one...

Of course we get a background, "Dumbledore is gay" reveal. Bet they intend Raya to be Bi/Pan too, so all shippers are valid. Some people go into children's stories these days like they're playing a Bioware game. All they care about is romance options. And this reeks of She-Ra, Korra, Late Stage RWBY nonsense, where they realize that all they have left are the shippers, so they pander hard.

Also, unless that river is cutting through pure rock, don't rivers change their course over time unless maintained by modern waterway management? It says a lot about how disinterested I am in this story, that the idea of a river with an unchanging channel bothers me.

Well that was quick.

Also unsurprising that the article immediately brought up shit like Korra for comparison. Lol and Tran pretty much confirms that its just her headcanon (and that the feelings were "platonic") yet these shipperfags eat it up. This is going to be the only thing remembered about this crappy movie now.

There's a reason there's a romance genre, these girls need to find shojo manga, I swear. Romance, love triangles, and appealing character designs, all the things they want.

I agree that manga has better shit and exactly what thirsty shippers are looking for (and if not give it a month or two and it'll be released), but disagree because shippers as they are now are the fucking worst and the last thing anyone who's into weeb shit needs is those whiny freaks mucking up a strange but good thing like they do in the west.

Shipping, even ship wars, have been around forever. Back in the day of serialized novels, they were rampant. Louisa May Allcott wrote Jo getting with some German professor just to spite Laurie/Jo shippers.

What is getting so grating is marginal shows, or shows on their way out the door, giving into unrealistic ships that weren't even planned when the show was developed, just because they've lost every audience but the shippers. Never, ever, let fans know their opinions influence your creative decisions, because they will become entitled assholes screeching for Poe/Finn, Sherlock/Watson, and Destiel, and it will derail anything else you're trying to do.

Just saw Raya through illegal means. Everything about it is boring. Pacing is also all over the place. And the whole plot about trust and unity is incredibly naive and beaten over your head everytime they went to new Body Parts cities. It feels like it accomplished nothing, despite it ended in perfect peace and unity ever after.

And ofc Raya is gay/bi/pan/whatever she shoves in her ass. I bet the same with her friend/rival in the loosest sense, Namarie. Look how boring their character designs are, definitely fits the brave, strong and independent Twatter crowds. Raya is so below average that you wouldn't able to discern her from any other faceless characters and Namarie has the bald-sided danger hair.

Give me back the two hours where I can watch anime girls instead.

What exactly is this "unity" you speak of? I'm sorry, but apparently, voting for Donald Trump seriously impaired my brain.

Is there a Cloaca Town?

Look on the bright side: on average, a manga artist makes their work with the Japanese audience and sensibilities in mind, and is quite likely to (politely) tell a bunch of foreigners shrieking over whom is fucking whom to go ram a cactus down their urethra - doubly so once said entitled shits start trying to make demands of them.

It seems like the usual suspects on Tumblr and Twitter are split between calling it a racist movie that disrespects Southeast Asian cultures and crying that if you don't pay 30 dollars on top of your Disney+ subscription to watch it, you're sending Disney the message that the movie failed because the lead was brown and a woman. The second take (which also overlaps with moralfagging about how evil you are for sailing the high seas and stealing from billion dollar companies) is pure shillery because they seem to forget that Disney has made multiple successful movies with non white female leads. One box office disappointment isn't going to convince them the future is White Cis Males

So I’m visiting my nieces and they turned this movie on, and holy hell do I see why this wasn’t that well received. Two or three separate “this is the setup for the plot” with fairly serious tones, then the dragon shows up and it’s suddenly wisecracking modern slang hijinks.

I cannot tell what this movie is going for.
