Artcow rcdart / Rory Cummings-Dise - Tranny Fetishist who Torpedoed a Potential Animation Career

The fucking massive ass yaoi hand on the weird blonde though

So Rory posted this thing on her twitter awhile ago and it hurt my eyes looking at it for more than two seconds so I made an edit

All I did was make her eyes larger and moved them down, redrew the nose and the mouth so the lip doesn't cover the nose, made the neck slimmer, and gave the poor thing some shoulders. This took 5 minutes.

Edit: It just drives me up a fucking wall how goddamn ugly the first one is (like wtf is that facial proportion and those shoulders) and how just with just mild tweaking it could actually be cute

That is a very adorable redraw. :winner:

The shift in her drawing method is absolutely insane. Her shark character drawings used to be cute. Now they're just ugly hasty scribbles. I'd feel sorry if she weren't such an egotistical cunt.

It's baffling how such a promising artist devolved into such a state. Say what you will about the Steven Universe art style, but at least it's still marketable to both children and adults. I'd be shocked if her recent drawings were to appeal to anyone who has no relations with her. Not even children.

A part of me hopes that she gets a wake up call and gets her inflated ego and bitch personality in check. Personally, while observing cows is pretty entertaining, it's more fulfilling to watch artists grow.

Unfortunately, it's highly likely that there won't be any happy ending for this cow because that's the inherent nature of being a cow. Her exact fate after art school is pretty intriguing, though. At this state, she is kind of a pressure cooking cow, unless she does something stupid to invoke the probably rightful ire of the PC crowd yet again.

Artists like Rory will never get a wake-up call. They feel their art is perfect the way it is and they won't change it if it keeps giving them more followers/fans, money or even job gigs for that matter. Combined with her personality and ego, things won't change. They could've changed these past few months but sadly, nothing has. Same thing can be applied to special snowflake artists on tumblr who draw nothing but anime characters as PoC for a living.

the only wake up call she'll get is when she graduates and never gets a job at cartoon network, nickelodeon, or even at disney since she lacks the talent and mindset required to work for those top companies.
she might grab something with a smaller indie company, but that would require her to work in a team and work on model

I could see her doing comissions as an online artist but good god, to do that you actually need to, you know, behave like a fucking human being...
I can see Rory uglyfying the character of a client and then getting super mad because the client doesn't like it and wants his money back.

Of course, i can see Rory being an utter cunt and scaring away potential clients too...

Then again, how many followers/fans does Rory have in her social networks? maybe her numbers are getting smaller. She hasn't posted drawings tagged as comissions, hasn't she? I could swear she has done that in the past. Probably Rory has cockblocked herself from gigs and potential clients just by being an utter cunt.

Maybe? If she's done commissions, they were so long ago I can't recall them.

She seems to prefer drawing for herself and only herself.

Probably because the thought of her actually putting effort into a commission by looking up references and drawing for longer than 10 minutes at a time turns her off. Seriously, she never draws out of her comfort zone, so why would she accept commissions on a character that isn’t from a cartoon she’s currently obsessed with?

... small foreheads, tiny eyes, then big nose and a huge mouth.
wow, it's like bizarro world anime. Everything traditional manga art exaggerates Rory de-emphasizes, and vice versa.

The catch? There's a damn good reason why manga art exaggerates the features it does, especially on characters the audience are supposed to find appealing. Wide eyes are a signifier of youth and innocence, and we're pre-programmed to react positively to that to such an extent that it works on robots, on animals, and on two-dimensional images. It's at least a part of why people like kittens and cats so much, never mind that cats are a bunch of fluffy little ingrates. It's an immediate and obvious visual cue used to evoke sympathy in an audience, and it's obvious, though to a lesser extent, in Western stylization too. There's also the very welcome side-effect, for an artist whose work is going to be printed in paperback format, that it makes the characters' expressions much easier to see and read. There's a reason people keep doing this shit, and that's because it works.

Rory's art, however? It's a knowing subversion, and that's interesting, but interesting is absolutely all it is because it doesn't work, it doesn't result in appealing or expressive art. And it can, and sketchy can too, and so can lumpy character models: the classmate who made the short about the detective and his cat proves that, but creating something that is visually appealing anyway takes a lot more thought and care and time and effort than she thinks it does. The way Rory tries to sell it, she just makes everything she draws look like a marginally less disturbing Hartley Hooligan. Innovation for its own sake seldom produces appealing results, but if she hasn't picked up on this after a year and a half of CalArts, she's unlikely to figure it out at all.

Good god I never would have guessed that was her stuff. Her art degradation is honestly terrifying.
