Anyway, that's a personal preference, me not being too fond of that style. But what is definitely noticeable about it is the amount of detail put into that video: in the backgrounds, in the environments, in things like the drips of liquid on the glass in the bar. Despite the simple facial features and the lack of coloured shading, the character moves as a whole and shows expression... there's detail put into his coat, his room, the glasses at the bar, the perspective changes and is reflected in the art...

I guess this video surprised me more than the others when compared to Rory's, because she also does the lumps-and-shapes-simple-style. But hers manages to seem so much lazier compared to something like this. Plus, it seemed like it wasn't finished- I was surprised when it ended. I know these are only shorts but there wasn't like there was a story being told like with some of the others. There was minimal shading, barely colour (I guess I was expecting the green sprouts to expand and shed colour onto everything else, or something), not even much line thickness variation. It's a blocky style, yeah, but aside from a few sequences doesn't seem to flow, and the random lines sticking out from the shapes look more like laziness than stylistic intent. It's like vectors being dragged around the screen rather than a sketch.

...I agree that it's good she didn't try to draw and animate people, though.

Shit, look at me talking like I have any experience whatsoever with animation or art.

Anyway back to... whatever she's up to now. Drawing Community fanart, apparently. Big lips and crossed eyes for everyone! Actually an improvement on the exaggerated noodles and hourglass figures we've come to know and fear, though.

Their simplistic, almost retro style looks like what Rory is trying to go for. Except since Rory doesn't understand how shape and form works so it comes out half assed.

I really like this. I'm getting an old Franco-Belgian comics vibe from this style and that is definitely a good thing.
As much as I like animu, I feel that too many young artists use it as a baseline for their art (I'm guilty of this) and while it has mixed results, this often causes many people's art styles to lose in singularity.

In any case I'm sure Rory isn't this person's source of inspiration. I recognize various Franco-Belgian styles that cound have influenced this (Tintin or Les Bidochon come to mind, along others I'm too lazy to search for right now)

Even though Mabel's faces border on the grotesque, there's a sincerity behind it unlike Rory's "ugly fetish."

She's also got an even better knack for backgrounds.

It would seem Mabel's not swept into the gender and pronouns on info page trend either, she's letting her work speak for itself.

The placement of the lower body is weird and makes her look like she has no abdomen/has a broken spine, and the hands are still a minimal mess, but I honestly agree that it's not bad. Might as well enjoy this blue moon while it lasts.

The voice actor (I think) for one of the bravest warriors character used a Rory doodle in his tweet. Weirdly, he didn't go for the obese gorilla "off-model" doodle she also posted in the same image set.

Aside from that, she's just posting the same old generic sketches. At least she's not getting worse from the looks of this- no tranny fetish porn (on this account). But she's not getting better either. Still drawing the mouth line that veers off the side of the face and makes the character look like he's chewing on a tiny piece of straw.

Stick to what you can safely shit out in five minutes, I guess.
