I feel like art schools are becoming obsolete because you can learn just about anything on the internet now. You can break into the industry with your talent and a willingness to learn and adjust.

Still one person ruined the reputation of the most prestigious art school in America and that’s great lol.

Art schools (ESPECIALLY Calarts) are only relevant because thats how you meet connections to the industry and get scouted.

That’s the scary part. Like I want to get in this industry someday but I don’t want to piss away hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn things I already know just for some maybe, maybe not, connections. I heard having a kickass portfolio does a lot of the work.

Color me impressed, this image from Rory's portfolio website doesn't look like utter garbage.

This might sound like me nitpicking, but I see this more of an example of what she could do if she applied herself. The details are nice but it's cluttered and unfocused, the only thing that actually stands out is the dog.
Which is a shame because she got this close to something worthwhile and just goes back to hand balls

I don’t know, you’ll definitely get a lot better going to an art school, even if you know all of the stuff already. It’s your chance to do a kickass portfolio and get connections.
I think I’ve seen a list before of Pixar’s directors and almost all of them are from Calarts? So yes, you get connections, but you have to work hard for them, just like you have to do to get anything in life

I think by the way the face is drawn, the style looks extremely similar. The coloring style is different though so that makes it debatable. Do you have anymore of these to go off of?

That was all the person uploaded. The instagram handle appears to say "illugrously" or something as they've done a bad job of scribbling out the name. The last two letters could be an h or an l in front of a y. The first three letters are definetely "ill" and it appears to be a u after that, although it could also be two i's, and I'm pretty sure there's a g after that. I've tried searching a few variations on instagram with no luck. "Illugraphy" and "illustratly" seemed like the most likely but I got nothing. Same with "illutrashly". I also tried a reverse image search with just the artwork and still got nothing.

I think at this point very few people are willing to risk Roryisms. Just because the coloring isn't spot on to how the Rory we knew did it doesn't mean it's not her. Keep in mind how much her are devolved in just a few months time while she was still active.

Tried to overlay the font (neue helvetica medium) with various letter combinations and figured out that the username is 9 characters long, ill----ly. The four letters missing exclude bdfhijklt (too tall) and mr (too wide/thin), but I gave up figuring out what they are exactly after plugging in about ten different combos into instagram. If anyone else is exceptional enough to finish the job, here's a head start.

I looked through their feed and couldn't find the specific picture, so they may have deleted it, but the coloring styles seem similar and this person does draw sparkles on everything, explaining the caption "of course he sparkles." As you can see, the ears and eyes are drawn the same way, and the highlights on the hair and coloring on the skin seem to be about the same. This user also has a square watermark which is about the right shape to be covered by the folder emoji in the original photo.

This definitely isn't Rory because not only do they claim to be German, but they've got a lot of other pieces that are like nothing she's done. Besides, I don't think Rory uses emojis in her descriptions.

They're only really similar to Rory in that they have Tumblr-ish style influences. I think this is more a case of Tumblr artists all taking stylistic influence from each other than anything else.

people in similar circles will very often take inspo from eachother to develop their style, its only really an issue when that circle is a shut and airtight bubble and no one ever looks out of it to the point where they start looking for further inspiration from THEMSELVES and it ends up inbred
