I can't get over what an absolute waste CalArts was for her. She already thought she was amazing so she didn't strive to improve. Her shitty personality alienated her classmates so no contacts through them. Her work is shoddy and lazy with the same characters over and over so her portfolio is weak. I guarantee you she made zero attempt at networking because she's up her own ass so she has no contacts in the industry itself.
There are so many talented students that would thrive off half the opportunities Rory has gotten. But she's a spoiled brat that has had everything handed to her so she thinks she's an untapped genius. It's hard not to Alog

Rory is partly why I’m not going to art school but decided on taking local workshops and online classes instead. My only problem is building connections but I’m sure there’s a way.

That's Rory? I know people couldn't get their hair cut during quarantine, but unless her hair just grows really fast or that's an old pre-college photo, holy shit. I can't believe she literally thinks having short androgynous hair looks good on her.

If it were anyone else, I would say congrats on not letting internet drama keep you from finishing school (like Nick Sandman) but since it's Rory, all I can say is how much did her moms pay calarts to get her through?
Time will tell if her life away (or incognito) from social media has changed her but if not, this thread will rise again with a vengeance.
College is what YOU make of it. Teachers won't nag you to come to class and finish your homework all the time because you're an adult who chose to give them money. Why should they care if you pass or fail?
If you stick to doing it on your own (which is the only option right now), go on social media and mingle with other artists. Getting your art into fanzines helps too. Heck, attend any art streams and webinars going on with convention season cancelled. You never know who or where you'll make a connection so don't give up. Or do give up, I don't run your life.
No this must be her most recent picture. Before she ran off, her hair was the dyke-ish curlytop buzzcut. Just like her idol Rebecca Sugar had in the early years of Steven Universe. (Her glasses are just like hers too)

No shading, ugly muted colors, the voices are nice but one of the characters sounds like he's speaking into a dish washer. There's no payoff for the whining and bullshitting the main character does, and not a whole lot makes sense to make this story work. In an animated thesis a large portion of the animation is dedicated to text flying across the screen and no voice over. At one point (that I caught, I'm not keen on watching it again) the mc's pants change colors for no discernable reason. Watch if you're interested in seeing a confusing mess about a simp whining for a good 5 minutes or so.
I'm trying to think of something nice to say, I really am. There's no panning shots, mere still images flashing by to establish the scene. In a big ass art museum you'd think a lot of long panning shots and fitting music could make the characters angst have more impact. I guess I liked the opening shot where mc looks like he's in a croc's mouth. Otherwise I kind of wish he'd ended up killed, at least the end would have some impact.

In my opinion, the worst part about this is all the sound effects. All the footsteps sound bitcrushed, and the bird's cigarette hisses. Even though that's bad in itself, it's always the loudest sound in the shot, even when they're far away. At about 1:24, it's louder than the music, almost as loud as the gunshot, and the bird is outside.
I know Rory is an animation student, not audio design or whatever, but I could literally fix the volumes in five seconds in audacity. There's no excuse.

sounds like shit and the animation is clunky. not only that but the plot has no meaningful conclusion and its hardly cohesive (like why the fuck did he jump into the water in the first place? the painting wasnt even ruined) 5/10 hope she got a C

that was painful to watch. the only part i genuinely liked was some of the character designs. the rest (colours, voice acting, plot etc) was mediocre at best. there's been no improvement whatsoever since rory's disappeared off social media

Please, somebody, put it out of its misery.
The short was alright, with very few color pallets to make it pop-out, and not a lot of memorable characters. The guy( I thinks its a guy) has an okay personality but I can't get over how unfortunate his face looks.
Plus Rory seems to have a weird thing with shading she just makes something hit by a light source have a completley different color rather than casting a darker hue of whatever main color is present. Its why the main character's pants look like its two different colors at certain scenes.
Overall, a 5/10, but that's only if I was led to believe it was from a 1st yr Calarts student project, NOT from a graduating student. You could really see where Rory is lacking when compared to her peers.
I don't know. Unless she's been able to make a really good connection with someone in her school, Rory might not have a easy time finding a job nor a chance to make her own special cartoon like her idol, Rebecca Sugar.
Also based on the description, it seems she dedicated part of the project to a friend of hers who recently passed away.

The animation was shit in comparison to every other film, but lets remember: this is RORY we're talking about.
I think this is leagues better than anything else Rory has done, and I actually like it. (not because it's good, but because you can only go up from captain america boobies).
