yes, WPD is owned and operated by the rdrama devs. they mostly have different admins from rdrama though

CT never should have been attempted. It's a subreddit comprised primarily of actual children and its purpose seems to have been to giggle at screenshots of furries and fake text messages and things. It did well on Reddit because the way most people use Reddit is just joining subs with pictures, videos, whatever, that they find funny or interesting and scrolling their homepage while they take a shit or slack off at work (or in CT's case, school) or whatever. CT never could have existed as a standalone platform and it was silly to even try.

WPD on the other hand targets a very large niche: the most degenerate people on the internet outside of actual chomos. After looking at other gore sites to try to convince Aevann that WPD would be a redundant and stupid thing to create (it disgusts me), I actually found that every other gore site is a horrible piece of shit. Garbage interfaces, paywalls, intrusive/malicious ads, worthless comment sections, and so on. WPD.tv (formerly .co before Namecheap fucked us) addresses all of these issues simply by existing competently and without all that seemingly ubiquitous bullshit.

It's morally indefensible but it feels good to shit on Big Tech bluehairs and the degenerates who run other death/gore sites so I feel the harm it does is offset by pissing off the right people. Not a really valid defense, but it's what I've settled on.

Honestly I looked at it and the people there seem way less fucking psycho than all the other gore sites. Not that they’re normal, obviously, but still. Maybe it will serve as a containment zone keeping the already insane from getting more so. Feels more og r/watchpeopledie than Documenting Reality (don’t get me fucking started) audience wise. Maybe the only situation where redditors are the better option.

The WPD userbase has its fair share of psychos, but the less-insane users are generally - and surprisingly - good about calling them out. The jannies are also good about getting rid of them on the dl because no one wants to deal with them.

This is one of my favorite WPD moments -


It's absolutely a fetish for an appreciable number of users, but the majority of them seem to be a mix of slightly embarrassed edgelords and people who are inexplicably curious about what a beheading looks like.

The "core" users are, strangely, a bunch of gay dudes and self-identified femboys who mostly just want to shitpost in chat and on h/Social. I quite like them.

Actually the drama is near invisible - you just see cryptic references to it in posts after the fact. Never a good write up or transcript. I guess it's mostly on Discord.
