So the fetish basically manifests as the male desire to be desired, but amped up a little bit. Presumably they've taken on submissive qualities because their general persons weren't suited to take on aggressive wooing methods, and they've been met with repeated and stinging rejection at various distances in their various efforts as the norm so they're not predisposed to continuing to stick their necks out that way. The idea of a reasonably attractive female that knows what they want (them), and is aggressive about demonstrating that to the point of possessiveness and (a diminished degree of) objectification is... attractive to them.

Because otherwise, they don't see themselves winning out on their own initiative. You can argue that many of them are starved for intimacy and have no good benchmark for what may be functional levels thereof for them, or in general.

It's more like they consider the way they're treated as a special thing between just the two of them, which affirms the relationship security they've been seeking while avoiding the scenario of missing their shot (in the case they did the pursuing at the start). They don't have to wonder whether or not their girlfriend (hypothetical or otherwise) is into them if they're constantly doing things with/to them.)

In the first place, a lot of people-- maybe even most-- who say they're into femdom... aren't into femdom. They just want to know they're wanted by someone they also want that's adequately sexed by their standards, will say dirty things to them, do dirty things to them, and have somewhat wild sex (or at least aggressive kissing/cuddling). In other words, they want a perpetuated and unambiguous positive response because they've been conditioned to not attempt to discern interest for them on the part of the other party because they've been batting .000 up to that point... and they throw that desire through a funky fetish lens.

And now everyone calls it "gentle femdom".

They're not necessarily fueled by Soylent nor are they necessarily angry angry incels... and they're not incels undergoing soylent rage, generally. They just learned (arguably incorrectly) that the only chances they have of intimate companionship are going to be despite them, effectively envisioning the female in the slightly dominant position the male traditionally occupies.

ADD: I should probably append the fact that there's a part of this where the guy, in all of this, just wants to be wholly vulnerable without being hurt on some level.

Stuff like this has happened. There was the case of Sharon Lopatka. This was one of the first cases that brought up concern about internet communities like this.
