i guess the property can only be that cheap because the price takes into account the fact that once you own it you have to pay a lot on private security to actually keep it operational.
I just feel bad for this guy. I don't think he did anything to deserve this, but he definitely didn't do the research on the area before he got into that shithole. The cheapness of the warehouse and properties was a huge red flag and it's clear he didn't ask enough questions. But it's not like anybody deserves to get stolen from just for trying to take advantage of cheap real estate to start a company. Dumb and naive, but I hope he pulls his shit outta there and takes this as a life lesson before it drives him into poverty.

Your opinion on HN is years out of date. Most of the startup bros, libertarians, and people with actual skill have left. The users of the site these days are nihilistic communists (many of whom don't even work in tech) who hate on literally anything and everything and somehow manage to post reddit-style opinions in an even more smug way.
That's definitely 90% of the posters now, yeah. But also there seems to be the same 3 or 4 slimy "startup" companies that are always posting there that they are "hiring", and they're definitely intentionally trying to con fresh-faced newbies to come work a "customer success manager" job for them (a.k.a. cold-calling sales) with this siren song of working in a "tech" "startup".

This is what gets me. He even posts security camera photos of neighbors barely clothed climbing into his building to rip out copper wire, and somehow doesn't make the connection. This demographic has blinders on and will never admit to what their circumstances show about the world.
