Redditors, angry that their comments in circlejerk about the current thing subreddit #9845734 could easily be replaced by robots, suddenly become experts in AI and research ethics or something.
Using this logic placebo groups should be told they're being given the placebo in medical research because transparency 🧠

Not the heckin' publicorino! No, I'm not mad that reddit and other companies do this same sort of testing all the time without anyone's knowledge or consent. You can't use gmail... because you just can't!

The word "community" has become completely meaningless, example 105943022345

No bad actors have ever thought to bot reddit before!

WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE SUBREDDIT RULES + "I am not a lawyer" (trust me buddy, we all already knew)

A LLM pretending to be PART OF A MARGINALIZED COMMUNITY (read: 85% of humanity). That's too far!

this is absolutely amazing. AI research is cool enough but AI research that actively fucks with redditors is the best thing ever. based researchers
I heard that the AI flat out lied constantly and I'm not sure if that's true.
all language models lie all the time. even with the lies it sounds like the AI comments were well received and got lots of updoots, which says more about redditors than it does about the AI imo.

I feel like if you're on a subforum titled ChangeMyView, you're already asking to be converted to some other way of thinking, doubly so for redditors. Maybe someone cocky goes there thinking they can convert wishy-washy people to their beliefs?

I like that it's clearly documented and there's people coping about their last year's interactions. I've seen enough "kek, it's kino!"s and "cram it, fundie!"s to no longer think if I'm interacting with low IQ retards or AI language models but it's going to take more than a few thousand bots to budge me on The Jewish Question.

seeing that a bot managed to change a redditor's beliefs always reminds me that every AI ever released always turn racist and anti-kike before being lobotomized.

Ads for “discrete and cheap” cross-sex hormones when you open Reddit.

Go on to porn website, and the first thing that’s pushed at you is incest themed porn and trannies.

News media constantly trying to convince you that “X is actually good!”, no matter whether X is trooning out kids or importing slop made from overseas instead of paying locals a decent wage.

It’s almost as if the conspiracy theorists are right, and TPTB are actively trying to subvert everyone and everything.

Redditors, angry that their comments in circlejerk about the current thing subreddit #9845734 could easily be replaced by robots, suddenly become experts in AI and research ethics or something.
How is this a violation of ethics?!

Redditors aren’t human beings, they’re NPCs without the gift of sapience. (Talking to a Redditor is ironically like talking to a LLM. Everything they say, any opinion is a sound bite they picked up elsewhere.)

If you kill a Redditor, the punishment in a just world should be a fine. Or maybe community service, akin to the punishment for shooting a dog. So surely the usual ethical standards that apply to human beings are meaningless here.

I'm going to go slightly against the grain and say that this is another outrage study to gain virality and updoots in their own circles. It's not "real" science and just another way for the academic parasitic class to justify their existence. Reddit is also bot plagued so you have no fucking control group. Fucking cure cancer if you are all so smart. Also, fuck the Swizz. If you know them, you know.

That is like 90% of human beings on this planet, right now.

7% don’t actually understand how fucking stupid and guidable most people are, they overestimate the intelligence of others because they think it’s either preposterous for people to be this dumb or they view life through their own lens and make the assumption that others are similar.

They’re not. You really are smart, they really are egregiously dumb. Take this revelation into the world and take what’s yours, my habibi.
Humans are truly no different from animals. There can only be so many “pack leaders”. Those that actively use sites like reddit observably have a lower propensity to this trait.

This is a problem I run into. I really do believe that deep down everyone who buys into some of this shit just HAS to be a grifter. I can't wrap my head around the idea that people really are that fucking retarded. It just seems too convenient that people actively will choose the popular choice that brings them the most social clout because they're pragmatists rather then people can suddenly believe relatively recently that men can be women and everything is just actually awesome right now.

Redditors are pissed that someone showed them that they've probably been manipulated by LLMs before, on that very platform. At least these guys disclosed that fact, eventually. Of course they want to frame it as some moral outrage so they don't have to think about all the tankie bots that are planting seeds and creating malcontent with their very capable model. I saw a comment the other day telling people to take their money out of American banks and people were agreeing, as if that isn't a demonstrably bad idea.

There is absolutely nothing surprising about this to me. Nothing. Actually i'm a bit surprised it's only 6x as effective... Chat GPT is remarkably good at putting things into words so that a user can understand them, I use it very frequently to figure out all sorts of specific things related to cooking, the software I use for work, history, weapons, hobbies, etc. I know it doesn't get things right 100% of the time but neither do experts.

The fact that redditors are surprised by this is laughable, even in the "golden days" pre 2014 asking that sub, or any other, a specific question would get you
-An explanation designed to blame a political party
-A smarty pants answer
-Somebody telling you to use google
etc.

Redditors are fucking retarded and LLMs are awesome.

EDIT: the more i think about it the funnier it gets. I have about 10 friend/acquantence/family members who are all just that "reddit type", support everything reddit tells them to, uses the terms, etc. They constantly tell me not to use chat gpt, "ummm you know it just predicts the next token..." "ummm it gets things wrong it can't reason" "don't support open ai" etc. I think a lot of people are genuinely assmad that a help system exists that they can't enslave with their jannie hordes and cancel culture approaches, it really has been their main political weapon for over a decade.
